There was absolutely no reason for it.

Because of this, the team lost its narrative driving force, and its principal contact with external stakeholders. Within a few months, the project had folded and was dropped... I'm not saying that's cos I left, but...

Being forced to work in-house when wfh is 100% fine is literally allowing discrimination against disabled people. I was in a job I loved — one I was hired 100% remotely for, and did without issue for almost a year — but was forced to resign because the company decided they were going 100% in-house.

Everyone in Victoria, Australia, should fill out this survey regarding working from home. The ability to wfh is an accessibility concern for disabled people, beyond its many other benefits. engage.vic.gov.au/wfh
Have your say: Working from home legislation
We want to hear your views on the Victorian Government’s plan to introduce working from home legislation.

Btw, as the Itchio noise and all died down, Adult games are technically just banned now.

Some adult games are still being sold, yes, but if you get caught or reported or whatever, all your payment options will be yanked and only a husk remains.

Zero comments from Itchio on this, nothing, at all.
too pissed off to write, sorry

Having worked with the GW IP team in the past, I'm _certain_ there aren't any leaks. Those folks are vigilant as fuck, and know what happens when you break NDA...
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
So IF they do fold, it's be cynical, capitalist, self-preservationist. It'll be do keep getting your money...so they can continue with their underlying values.

From racist, sexist, homophobic bullshit baked in by Walt himself, right through until the US military heavy involvement in Marvel, and beyond. Disney isn't some nice company which is too scared to stand up to fascism.
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
Though individual artists and teams there have done good work in the past — some of which stands up as some of my favourite pieces of art ever — it's undeniable that the company itself holds fascist values.
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
If Disney does fold — and it's a big IF — please don't interpret it as them (re)growing a spine or finally waking up to what's right, etc.

Disney has always been firmly in bed with fascist ideals. Just look at the history of what they've made.

I'm seeing people deciding to let their season passes to Disney's theme parks lapse, which might be the thing that ultimately gets the company to regain its spine

Disabled people deserve more autonomy, better social supports and a living wage.

All too often we’re abandoned by society and forced to exist below the poverty line.

Trapped in abusive relationships because we require the help to survive and that help comes at a cost.

It’s time for change.

Me too, and me too ❤️ We'll be alright...

You could also make it "roll" at the end, if you want to slightly distance it from the real word, which would help with search engines, whilst also making it more blatantly about dice rolling games.
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
First thought worst thought, but:

Riggmarole: it has your name in it, "role" in it, and with one fewer <g> it means "a long rambling story or statement" for that relevance and touch of tongue-in-cheekness.

There is nothing inherently good or bad about a religion/cult. But all of them are subject to the same risks for abuses. However, only religions get a slide, because we've allowed them to not be cults by definition, despite functioning identically.
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
By making them definitionally distinct, we've allowed people to say "religion" = "good", "cult" = "bad", and therefore "group I like" = "religion" and "group I don't like" = "cult", regardless of the practices therein.
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
I genuinely believe one of the greatest linguistic failures of the modern age is allowing the distinction between "religion" and "cult."

Historically, they were synonymous. And there was nothing wrong with that. There isn't _inherently_ anything wrong with something being a religion/cult...

But...

Until everyone in game dev realises that "what is best for the player" = "what is best for the studio," we'll keep seeing the same shit year in, year out.

Studios (read: execs) that make games which don't nurture their players may profit in the short term, but will fold before long.
owenkcstephens.bsky.social
That is often the CORE issue of obsessive/addictive gameplay design.
What is best for the game studio is often NOT what is best for the game player.
And a game designer wishing to act ethically needs to think about that hard.
nathubbell.bsky.social
Long ago, at a company that no longer exists, I heard someone say our games needed to get better at "driving the compulsion loop."

And, I mean, no disrespect toward that person - our studio was struggling to survive at that point.

But I did think to myself: "Wow. Is that what we want?" 😐
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
Maybe I'm weird for thinking this, but I think humans should probably get rights before a glorified autocorrect...
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
But they're Acolytes of the Inquisition, damn it! They SHOULD get stressed out!

So this little subsystem is intended to reward pushing a little _too_ hard. It's a nice little Test Your Luck game, with a touch of competition between Players thrown in.

Very promising results thus far! Keen for No.2!

Stress creeping up is never a good thing, but it's also a resource I want PCs to actively gain in exchange for Pushing Through on failed Checks and Saves, or just by putting themselves in harms way. Of course, the higher it gets the more likely they will fail Panic Saves and Perils of the Warp...
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
+10 XP, and update their High Score to match their Stress. Otherwise, they gain +5 XP.

Additionally, the PC with the highest High Score gains an extra +5 XP.

High Scores reset to 0 during Downtime (expected every 3–4 sessions).
itsnonnabee.bsky.social
Whilst it's still a little too early to call, I'm feeling really positive about last night's #Voidship playtest. _Especially_ the XP system, which I have tied to Stress.

At the end of each session, PCs compare their Current Stress to their High Score (starting at 0). If it's higher, they gain...

(I am running a 40K game using a hack of Mothership I'm calling #Voidship, and this was a quote from this evening's session.)
