Also so often, what they mean is “it didn’t literally happen at actual Ellis Island” and like, yeah, most people didn’t even go through Ellis Island, there’s lots of ports, but I really don’t think it matters if people use “at Ellis Island” as shorthand.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.

A mom in Houston reported her 15-year-old son with autism missing. She spent 6 days terrified, searching for him. The whole time, Houston police knew exactly where he was since they helped ICE place him in a refugee facility.

This is beyond cruel.

there are interesting and cool ways to do that without just shitting on marginalized groups! characters in books can be complex and flawed and of their time and still be relatable and enjoyable to read about.
