This morning I spent time looking up citations for a student. By the time I got to the third (with zero results), I asked where they got the list, and the student admitted they were from Google’s AI summary.

Honestly though I’m relieved I don’t manage interlibrary loan anymore?
“AI models not only point some users to false sources but also cause problems for researchers and librarians, who end up wasting their time looking for requested nonexistent records…”

Both the "Continue" button and the "Try it now" button do *the same thing* in what is the clearest example of a dark pattern I've ever seen. Imagine someone is getting metrics about the "number of Google Docs users who are using AI" and all the numbers are total bullshit.

They’re clearly plugging this dude into an IV regularly and, if this were Biden, there would be demands for weekly hour long press conferences from his doctors on his health. But that’s not how authoritarianism works so stop asking questions already.

They’re not really PhD students, or if they are they invent things. This guy found a couple who seem determined to be victims of AI shaming, which is interesting in itself, but I’ve seen others whose whole deal is productivity but their tips are bad and clearly not from a recent student.

Thread on how to detect ai in that viral dog video
Yeah, I mean, I'm critical of any video nowadays that is trying to elicit an emotional response, especially when it's asking for subs at the end. It's weird that all the people seem to end up with the dog they want. And shelters are overflowing, where are the rooms full of people wanting to adopt?

Bad framing: ACIP voted to scrap the universal hepatitis B vaccine recommendation for newborns.

Accurate framing: Anti-vax conspiracy theorists appointed to ACIP by Robert Kennedy Jr., who made a fortune as an anti-vax profiteer, voted to expose babies to a preventable, incurable, deadly illness.

An estimate of the energy cost of producing one single 10 second Sora video: one kilowatt hour.

- Deplete and then recharge your iphone 17 68 times
- 10% of daily German household use
- 5.5 hours of Netflix
- ~4hrs of gaming

This is probably a huge underestimate
