AI hiring is here. It’s making companies — and job seekers — miserable
AI hiring is here. It’s making companies — and job seekers — miserable
As America’s labor market slows, AI-led interviews and auto-generated cover letters are dramatically changing the process of getting a job. And maybe not for the better.

Something about the way the news has been shaking up lately makes me very scared I'm going to wake up to a seventeen hours long hbomberguy video in the next few weeks.

I loved the blog era. I miss the blog era. I was a blogger. I also still 'write to think' as Jamelle says below this.

But it was never where -most- people were influenced, even in its absolute prime.
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

Let Rep. Thompson give a lesson in Reporting 101 to about half the DC press corps.
GLASHEEN: Antifa is our primary concern right now. That's the most immediate violent threat we're facing

BENNIE THOMPSON: Where is antifa headquartered?

GLASHEEN: ... ... ... we are building out the infrastructure right now

THOMPSON: What does that mean?

Why 'move fast and break things' is a monumentally bad idea - especially with magic.
Time to eat your vegetables again y'all! What's a one-sentence elevator pitch for your book? If you need help, [thing] meets [thing] is a great baseline. #WritingPrompt

Yes. The idea becomes make them unanimously vote to support a manifestly unfit, and very possibly criminal man-baby. Cause them them wear it, own him.
“Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives, and we know that's the case," Jeffries said at a press conference Monday.

Okay but why not…….. try anyway?

On the one hand, Reddit explodes every time a single asset in anything game-related is found to be AI, on the other the billionaire CEOs with massive AI investments are saying all the normal people they know don't care about AI use. It's hard to draw any conclusions as to which might be true.

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Requiem for Early Blogging
As part of Talking Points Memo’s 25th anniversary, I wrote an essay on early blogging, and what I miss about it. Here it is, in its entirety: Whether I like it or not, the first line of my obituary will probably be that I was the founding editor of Gawker.

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

The original plan for the book's inciting incident was a 'demonic' assault against a mountain pass citadel.

Every. Single. Revision. To the outline has made removing it more sensible, but I really wanted that set piece :(

Watching a video and all I can see is this painting which has come off its hooks, but also the lamps which would cover portions of it *anyway* even if it hadn't, and the worst part is that it isn't cantered between the window frames.

I wish I understood my own wiring with this stuff.
