Some sleuthing on the drive here shows that I do *not* have the standard Unix compiler, this thing comes with GCC 2.2.2! The `make` tool is ancient, though, so I had to build a new one of those.

Messed with build flags a bit and now GCC 3.3 seems to be building, hopefully it works...
