in all the ways that matter, I am my father’s daughter; for all the days I live, I will live them in his honour.
In a portrait photo, one-year-old baby Melissa sits on her father’s lap, reading a picture book together. Melissa’s hand holds an old photo of her dad playing his acoustic guitar. Behind the photo, the same guitar leans against the wall. Melissa and her dad during a canoeing trip some years ago, smiling towards the camera with a river behind them. Melissa and her dad waving at a distant photographer while sitting in the stands at a Winnipeg Jets hockey game.

And it was like, oh yeah, life after politics is sure to be rough for a good-looking dude with a famous last name, friends in high places, and generational wealth.

But they were so convinced the whole world hated him as much as they did, because they were exposed to nothing else.

There was a time when MCGA Twitter was often talking about how Trudeau would try to hang onto power as a “dictator” forever in part because if he wasn’t prime minister he’d be jobless, destitute and a total pariah run out of society with pitchforks

Sort of as an aside to the news of Justin Trudeau canoodling with Katy Perry, I’m reminded how certain discourse about him revealed how totally people are submerged in their media bubbles

Totally. I wish I’d had a more room because we talked about that a lot — the FIT program at MCIC has that ethos built in. With this product, a lot of grant went to helping the women train in like, marketing and value-added production. Hugely valuable skills and can (and will) be applied to anything

Anyway, it was super cool to see how organizations in Manitoba can play a role in the wider global community. Thanks to MCIC for inviting me and to @winnipegfreepress.com for giving me the green-light to go.

There was a lot I didn’t have space to get into. One of the more interesting — especially in this political climate — was that the latest grant had room for the new product it funded to fail. The women were free to *try* something, knowing the skills built in trying have far wider applications.

It was incredible to see how women of the Yapacani region, who largely grew up in subsistence farming, have taken Canadian development grants to explore fish farming and run with it, building new businesses, testing out innovative new products, and leading real community-driven economic growth.

these “divisive issues” are always like, “would Jesus want us to round up poor immigrants, tear them away from their children and throw them in camps,” and it’s really hard to read the Bible and come to any conclusion other than “no, seems like not”

Kyiv being hit hard tonight, drones and missiles. An acquaintance’s apartment was hit by a Shahed; thankfully she’s ok. Watching from afar hurts. So does knowing I couldn’t handle one more of these nights if I’d stayed. Please, all, stay safe.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."
