We all know Neil’s mom briefly (and badly) ran the EPA under Reagan, but did you know he’s also related to the Colorado skiing clan that sells jackets like this to rich people.

Neat family.

Can bad psychedelic trips be avoided?

The short answer is, sort of! Nothing can guarantee an ideal experience, but there are ways of setting things up that are more likely to result in deep, positive growth.

Greta Thunberg arrested for holding a sign opposing genocide.

When peaceful protest is a crime, democracy is in deep trouble.

Happening under a Labour Government.

We already had those conversations and most Americans and Canadians decided that torturing people in domestic prisons is worth it for the feeling (not the reality) of safety. The conversations we need to be having are about how to dismantle all the prisons that currently exist
Only a matter of time until a UC Berkeley law professor writes a memo justifying torture, a brave Vanity Fair writer gets tortured to say whether it hurts, and we have a national discussion about whether certain people should be tortured for our safety.

I think that her incompetence in agitprop is kind of the other side of her sole skill set, which is telling rich people what they want to hear. 1
I mean the more interesting conversation (to me) isn't that Bari Weiss isn't good at journalism, it's that she's not very good at agitprop, the REAL role she was hired for

After what we're seeing at CBS, if today is not the perfect day for everyone to find some independent journalism & nonprofit newsrooms to support... what day could be better?

Never forget that "more conversations need to be had first" is a primary tactic that neoliberals use to kick the can down the road to avoid ever having to do anything
this, from Bari Weiss's 9pm editorial call, is just complete and utter horseshit. she can't even do damage control right

especially in the dark hours we need to remember that we are going to win
Worth noting, I guess, that inside of a year we've gone from administration officials taking selfies of themselves at CECOT and bragging about how it's hell on earth to now getting their horrible little media worms to kill stories about it

This is horrifying and I think AI shouldn't be anywhere near classrooms, but I do think conversations need to be had in academia about why students are being forced to read dense and inaccessible work they're clearly not incentivized to read, instead of training scholars to be more engaging writers
This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:

And please also, AGAIN, never forget that they are inherently unethical to use because no one gave permission for their research or writing to be used in it. It is all stolen, and if you're using the plagiarism machine, please keep that in mind.
My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

The fact of the matter is that even if we removed all dehumanizing immigration restrictions, the vast majority of people would stay where they are because barring overwhelming danger most people don't like uprooting themselves to move to a strange place where they don't know anybody
Despite all the noise about “mass exodus”, 51% of African emigrants move within Africa. Only 3% of the African population lives outside their home country, compared to 8.5% of Europeans living outside theirs.
