This post inspired by me watching Werewolves (2024) (bad) and realizing all the werewolves looked like they were in the Rockafire Explosion

The thing with Ohtani for me is that he has exactly one comp in baseball history, and it's a guy who was regarded as mythical even in his own time. And Ohtani's more talented than *that*

What’s the closest you ever got to a “Nazi phase”?

Mine was my “Nietzsche is great, besides, he hated Christians, not Jews” moment in college

Either that or my Nation of Islam/Malcolm X fascination. Either way, specifically anti-Nazi!

This new doc on HBO is about the appalling conditions, state violence, and corruption inside Alabama prisons. A lot of it was filmed by men inside on contraband cell phones. Highly highly recommend

I want to say one more thing. This is not about "censoriousness" or "contrition."

Some ex-Nazis go around doing lectures on de-radicalizing people. That is a contribution to society. No one is slamming them for anything.

If one ran for office, from the get-go a different story. DON'T LIE THOUGH
YOU CANNOT RUN ON “NO TOLERANCE FOR NAZIS” IF ONE OF YOUR GUYS HAS A TOTENKOPF
If people affiliated with the campaign have to fall back on stuff like this in October in the year prior to the election, you're toast, pack it in.

guy who immediately pivots off of defending a nazi tattoo into screaming at an unrelated black guy for (a) not instantaneously understanding why someone would have a nazi tattoo, and (b) not engaging in more anti-israel activism. this is diagnostic of how bluesky is worse than the site run by a nazi
While I wait for BSky to let me delete my account (very cool system), I’ll just say that while many of us marched in the streets, Jamelle Bouie said absolutely nothing. He then spent another year or so saying very little in print. Deep down inside he knows all this.

i don't think that these guys understand that if we do not get the Senate to fix it, we are simply going to have Jim Crow II and a House the Democrats are structurally unable to win in 2031.

okay then i guess we're not having a democracy
Janet Mills is so hilariously not the swing vote for Democrats to fix the fillibuster and given the margins and methods you'd need to fix it, you need essentially unanimity or close to it within the caucus, which isn't present.

“People on the website owned by a Nazi and dominated by far-right discourse support me on how a Nazi tattoo is no big deal.”
Anyway, the gap between the Twitter broad left and the BSky broad left on all this remains monstrous. The former has the virtue of being correct.

all of these people would do well to learn something about “cheap” and “costly” grace. no one is saying that platner is irredeemable, but that some things are a bridge too far for someone seeking a public trust. if he feels truly contrite, he can work on himself and his community and try again.

This is right, but one step in doing the work is to stop nominating and electing people that support the nonsense. If you successfully make it into a deal breaking issue than that helps move the ball where it needs to go.
