There's some economics in here, but a whole lotta politics, too. I am very worried that we are going to get some very bad policies in response.

An economy where the largest and most profitable companies generate revenue through advertising means an ever-increasing pressure to market to consumers, and the consumers are feeling the gap between what they can afford and what they're being convinced they want to buy
What you’re describing here is not an affordability crisis but perpetual miasmatic reactionary discontent, is the thing
Affordability has more baked into it than simply real wage growth. Its real and perceived quality of goods and ease of daily life. The constant comparison to others who “have” more anchors our sense of success. One of the many ways social media and reality TV have warped our minds.

The funeral was for Bryce Underwood's NIL deal
I was in Detroit today for a funeral. On the way back I drove through a blizzard but, as a bonus, I stopped at a rest area near Upper Sandusky, Ohio and this guy was at the urinal next to me, in full costume. We walked out at the same time and people stopped for selfies with him. Ohio is crazy.

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

Climate change is real and all that but Tehran is a desert city that has grown 4x the population in 60 years. It's an infrastructure issue.
A city of 10 million people is running out of water and sinking by up to 30 cm *every year*

But please, tell me again how manageable climate change is.

If you don't use twitter you missed out on a very funny thing; elon musk apparently instructed Grok's programmers to have it only say nice things about him and now it's spitting out responses like these whenever you ask it "whos in better shape, elon or lebron james"

A friend of mine has early access to cutting edge corporate jargon, I heard the phrase "let's double-click on that" from him long before anywhere else. I asked him what's new these days and he says it's "the shark closest to your body" for the most urgent issue.

Lots of spilled ink and clutched pearls over a pay issue that's literally getting fixed as we speak. The very next WNBA games you see will be played by players under a CBA that takes the latest TV deal into account. It's a non-issue!
For @msmagazine.com, I wrote about the WNBA and the issue of pay equity. By the time the WNBA was only two seasons in (1999-2000) the average NBA salary was 58 times higher than the average WNBA salary. Twenty-six years later, the gap has jumped to 116 times higher.

I really do think participation trophy culture is a bigger input into why everyone seems to be the way they are today. Just a powerful expectation that things should be different or better than they are with no real explanation or path to get there
Turning into a participation trophy guy from the left. This young man has never faced a single consequence!
According to the car wash owner, agents arrested employees before they could obtain their documentation from their work lockers. So many were likely here legally.

Here's hoping this article on Zac boasting about how he ruined some immigrants' lives follows him around for a very long time.
