Ultimately the question is whether or not the majority of people believe the narratives major media are peddling.

If we believe that they do, then protesting is pointless and all is lost.

If however, most are sceptical then there's hope that escalation will backfire on conservatives.

If you're just being violent as an immediate response to aggression it's easy to be painted as rioters and isolated.

If however you are a victim, and can be seen as such, it can rally people to your defence and very suddenly oppressive behaviour has a cost they might not be willing to pay.

The reality is that their violence has a goal behind it, it's a tool. It's important to recognize violence in that context and the notion that protests, especially peaceful ones, aren't really about protecting people.

They're to build pretext for self-defence, to demonstrate a lack of alternatives.

The pigs are going to attack you and attempt to crush your protest regardless. Thinking the media or anyone in power cares about optics is a joke at this point. They want to kill you! It’s actually much easier to do so if you are pacified and think that you have to play by the rules!

One of the things I hear with some younger trans people I know is they feel, "I'm gonna get this surgery, and I'm gonna learn that way of speaking, and I'm gonna be done." You're never done. If you're a straight, cisgender person, you're never done. Things are always happening that have the potential to change you. So all I am today is not who I'm gonna be tomorrow, because of the things that happened to me today and later tonight. People forget that. "Oh, after I transition, I'm gonna be through." Well, good luck with that. 'Cause if you're through, then it's time to leave, you know, and I don't wanna go anywhere yet.
I'm in my seventies. Why didn't I stop? Number one is community. My gurls. I've had moments of thinking about stopping, but I didn't. I made sure I would step back, reju- venate myself, and then got back out there, and that's how you make a way. Our stories are not all the same, but the destination is: to get some place where we have some peace and harmony, and we can be at ease with ourselves and the people around us. You make the best of it all and hope you can help make it a little better for the gurl after you.

One of the things that I think the internal politics of ICE/CBP is probably grappling with and didn't quite get when all this kicked off is that the fact that the surveillance state could be turned back on the secret police in a way that makes it very hard for anything they do to be ignored.
