Uncertainty and fear are two of the most powerful drivers for people in regards to conspiracy theory, propaganda as well as entering cultic or radicalized milieus.
In periods of collapse, people are more vulnerable to cults. I think about this all the time. The human mind craves simple explanations for complex problems. Closed belief systems promise certainty, belonging, and the prospect of control.

Cops are the ultimate proof of the Dunning-Kruger effect because every single cop who goes on a reality competition show does a confessional about how that means they're good at reading people and catching them in lies while in reality cops perform WORSE than the average person on that in studies.
