Chris Murphy: "This is a country that's falling apart because Trump is in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. We're not on the verge of an authoritarian takeover. We're in the middle of it ... I have no moral obligation to vote for a budget that literally funds the destruction of our democracy"

there are a lot of democrats over in my part of the world who don't think Ilhan Omar represents them and they run primaries. So far the primaries have failed, but folks trying to run primaries against an elected official they don't like is called democracy, not "tearing the party apart."
"Business realities" - The wealth class will never give a damn about us. This is the framing I saw go by on the LinkedIn newsfeed yesterday.

"Surprises" - as if it isn't terrifying to have the rug pulled out from under you at the end of a long life. Fuck all these guys.
Medicare's 2026 enrollment period begins Wednesday and covered seniors should expect surprises, experts say. Many out-of-pocket costs for Medicare Advantage will have higher caps, and more than a million enrollees could see their current plans eliminated entirely. Industry experts suggest seniors check if their preferred doctors remain accessible, since many are leaving Medicare Advantage networks. What's behind the changes? Pure "business realities," says The Wall Street Journal: Insurers are looking to salvage profits they've lost due to regulatory changes and higher medical spending.

Now Trump is sending $40 BILLION to bailout Argentina.

This would fund at LEAST a year of the ACA tax credits millions rely on to afford health care.

Meanwhile, Argentina has universal health care.
U.S. support for Argentina could hit $40 billion
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said an additional $20 billion in private-sector loans for Argentina could effectively double the value of a U.S. rescue plan.

Might need to borrow "cute little appointment" - perfect encapsulation of the charming naivety we experience at times when dealing with bureaucracies 😅
Look into the history of abortion opposition - it wasn't until 1965 that the Church view on abortion shifted from one of sexual sin to taking a life.

There is a SIGNIFICANT difference in saying something is a sin vs. a crime. This whole thing is an American invention.

I saw some debates recently about if the exposed texts represent more of the same or something new, and I tend to think it's ok to split the difference on this one

like, those texts are wild and on another level but they didnt come from nowhere. it's givin 'I learned it from you dad!'

todays reminder that the right didnt suddenly go bad when trump won. john roberts is a product of george w bush, and besides the constant chaos of the middle east, one of bush's biggest legacies.

this is a big reason why bush is still the absolute worst in my book
Everything about John Roberts's approach to the Voting Rights Act makes sense when you remember that John Roberts has has always been hostile to the Voting Rights Act, never believed it was appropriate, and has spent most of his 45-year legal career working to hollow it out.
One of the Biggest Cases of the Supreme Court’s Term Is John Roberts’ Decadeslong Pet Project
If there’s one thing the Roberts court has been consistent on, it’s this.

SIGH.

Getting in bed with the Evangelicals to hurt women and end abortion rights - even as their followers continually called Catholics pagans and denied their Christianity - has come around to bite the Church in the ass.

FFS. Never sell your soul.
Big acorn year here in MN, too! The silly part of it all is that our stage is shaded by a few large oak trees, so sometimes we'll get bopped by projectiles in the middle of the show 😅

The squirrels across the way at the oak park are wonderfully fat and happy ahead of winter 🥰

Republicans are melting down over millions of Americans peacefully protesting against Trump on Saturday.

Cancún Cruz is scared because the GOP’s authoritarian agenda is becoming even more unpopular as our defiance grows even stronger.

Join your local event: www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=i... #NoKings
Acyn on Twitter: “Cruz: Follow the money. Cut off the money. You look at this No Kings rally—there's considerable evidence that George Soros and his network is behind funding these rallies which may well turn into riots.

I've introduced legislation that would allow DOJ to use RICO to prosecute the money that is funding these No Kings Protests”

412 people have faced criminal charges for their pregnancy outcomes from 06/24-06/25. Miscarriages, stillbirths, even live births...

Many cases involved controlled substance use... Which got me thinking, will people be prosecuted for using Tylenol while pregnant?

Keep at it! Republican leaders have doubled down. Just tie it around their necks.
Democrats shouldn't let go of these Young Republican messages.

Have the right-wing defend it. The VP, JD Vance, already has, and the talking points have been delivered to the MAGA base.

They keep deflecting and doing both sides, but nothing is comparable.

Just keep it in the news.

You unlocked mine! Senior year, I made a large moon prop for the Jazz choir's performance of blue moon.

Yearbook comes out, and the kids voted most artistic were photographed holding MY moon!
Haha yes! Love this reading of it!

SOMEbody needs to go to jail..!
“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

I’m only thinking about this article in the content of SCOTUS rehearing the Voting Rights Act case. This is what Republicans say in private. Republicans who are elected. Republicans who serve within their party apparatus. Republicans who work for the Trump administration & work in state government.
