I have always been jealous of dual citizens. I do not qualify for any citizenships other than that of the country of my birth.

It's only a matter of time before humanities departments will be forced to accept AI-authored assignments, as part of revised university policy to cooperate with these billionaires. It's already happening, and our response needs to be decisive. Because our students' ability to *think* is at stake.

I know this is probably a rhetorical question but the actual answer is that they believe white people should have a monopoly on violence.
Two different white people attempted to assassinate Donald Trump in 2024. The suspect in the Charlie Kirk murder is a white man. Yet white people are still allowed to walk freely in the United States of America. Make it make sense.

As a political scientist, I think the effects on unity are some of the biggest problems with the agreement. It legitimates "Alberta" as an aggrieved party, distinct from other provinces, while treating BC and its peoples to be as issues to be managed, rather than partners in the federation.

Danielle Smith uses notwithstanding clause to declare herself premier of B.C.
Prime Minister Mark Carney disagrees with the concept of a premier of one province unilaterally taking over a different province but his hands are tied by his unwillingness to do anything about it.

its absolutely unfucking believable to sign an MOU about what will be done in another province without even inviting the province to the table

This aged well. The MOU leaves the federal and AB provincial governments all but say out loud that FN "engagement" will be limited to "how can we get you to incentivize you to agree to what we are planning?". Miles away from good-faith consultation, let alone free, informed, prior consent.
Same goes for First Nations. The federal government is going to spend a lot of time and money in court explaining how they could be serious about consulting with Indigenous peoples in accordance with s35 obligations, when they approved the project in principle before the conversation even began.

“…the economics of the industry might delay the prospects of any new oil pipeline”

Let’s hope so, since ethics, environmental concerns, and the wishes of British Columbians (including and especially First Nations) never seem to enter the equation.

THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.
