Around 13 million fewer people in the UK will be offered an autumn booster for COVID this year. Those aged 65 to 74 will no longer be able to get this vaccination free - that's around 6 million people, of which just over half took up the offer last autumn. @theipaper.com

"As the Flu Surges in Asia, Could Getting Sick Year-Round Be the New Normal?"

We let COVID rip for years and it smashed everyone’s immune systems. Now flu, RSV and other viruses hit harder — being “sick year-round” is becoming the new normal. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

In airports, at random breath testing spots, in clinics, at the dentist…

It’s as if people that don’t want to/can’t afford to catch C19 have been erased…

None of this considers clinically vulnerable people and #COVID.
How can we mask? There is no recognition of airborne threat, security and facial scanning has been prioritised over biohazard risk.

Episodes like this illustrate why criminal charges are appropriate for the public health and infection control leaders suppressing information about prevention of COVID and long COVID - the "gaps in public messaging" called out by Canada's Chief Science Advisor.

They are killing people.
mark-ungrin.bsky.social
It's so bad that Canada's Chief Science Advisor had to call out our public health leaders for their failure to do their job and educate the public ("gaps" in messaging)!

But it's hard to get that story out because public health can throw around huge PR slush funds.

Prevention: There are gaps in public messaging about the importance of PCC prevention. PCC preventive actions include avoiding SARS-CoV-2 infection and reinfection through protective behavior, such as isolating when sick to avoid spreading disease and effective masking in crowded spaces, and making it easy to adopt protective measures through steps that government, institutions and employers can take. Equally important is indoor air quality and ventilation to reduce transmission of infectious diseases that transmit through the air, including SARS-CoV-2, influenza and other common respiratory virusesFootnote46 Footnote47. Adequate ventilation and air filtration is often a key gap in buildings where people gather, including schools.

Another key action along with other measures to prevent PCC is vaccination. There are gaps in messaging about reducing the risk for PCC through vaccination across all ages. COVID-19 vaccination and messaging targeted to priority populations to protect against acute COVID-19 illness may have an unintended consequence of conveying that keeping COVID-19 vaccination up to date for acute and chronic effects is not really necessary for all age groups.

A few weeks ago there was a #Covid19 outbreak on my Mom’s memory care wing. The whole section was quarantined. Family could still visit but before entering a resident’s room, they were req’d to put on full gowns & gloves. They were even told to remove their shoes. But masks were optional.😡

Canadians – If you have some time this long weekend, fill out this godawful government survey on AI, which itself seems to have been written by AI trained exclusively on buzzword-laden LinkedIn posts.

You can't be pro-infection AND pro-vax. Doctors flogging immunity debt, hybrid immunity, and overall "get sick to not get sick" ridiculousness are undermining vaccines. Period. And health supremacists to boot. Or outright eugenicists.

1. Before 2020, I never, ever remember getting sick being portrayed as a good thing.

"Most people will get one or two respiratory infections every year. In some ways, it's a *good thing* when you are a child or healthy adult".

I did this, took like 30 min.
Points I kept hammering: domestic cloud, regulations around copyright and likeness rights, focusing on machine learning with concrete, real world uses (creating new drugs, etc), the damage done by slop, the need to listen to AI experts who are realists, not boosters.

Here's the latest variant picture for Canada, to late September.

XFG.* "Stratus" continued to dominate, but fell back to 71%.

NB.1.8.1 "Nimbus" grew slightly to 14%.

JN.1.* + "FLiRT" rebounded suddenly to 7%.

Per CDC source: At internal leadership meeting this afternoon, it was shared that 1,257 people were RIF'd at CDC. Number may not be final. Apparently, chief of staff was unaware that RIFs were going to occur so not clear who is making decisions. (Short 🧵)
