We got this
It's official! Sean Orr's on the ballot April 5th.

“I can’t wait to be at City Council to be a thorn in Ken Sim’s side every day – fighting for the housing we need, demanding real climate action like better public transit, & working to restore integrity to City Hall.” @seanorr.bsky.social #vanpoli

More 2026 news! COPE officially announces they will also plan for a mayoral candidate

They believe their political moment is now, OneCity believes they have the organizing/fundraising ability, and Greens believe they have Pete Fry, so expect this left impasse for at least a few more months

Turns out, austerity means we can’t have nice things
You can like or dislike fireworks, enjoy the post-show exodus from downtown or abhor the crowds, but the Celebration of Light is probably the biggest event that celebrates Vancouver's Vancouverness.

Traditions die, but this one hits bigger than most.

It’s true. I did get pissy
(we are now into councillors being pissy, as Orr says about the Energy Retrofits $$$ “let’s take it out and put it in potholes, great job," Dominato says fixing potholes is a safety issue and argues Orr is frivolous about that, and Orr says loudly "I did not say it was frivolous"

as you were)

Will be remembered next October, esp when people see the cuts that were hiding inside the "envelopes"

Speaker 3: surprised to be called. Thought it was over. City does need a reset. I’m a city worker and I don’t want to lose my job. So I believe you that core services will be protected. But be wary of domino affect. Yes Home Depot is open but nobody is there to help you. Support VPD. You work 9-5

Ok back from break. 542: what is not in front us. Like getting a novel with half the pages missing. We aren’t employees told it’s balanced but the pages that tell us how are missing. It’s not a budget it’s an outline. You can’t debate what you can’t see. We don’t need the best slogan we need best

He says the police board has said no to some budget asks and the police have cut back their spending - but can’t name examples. #vanpoli

I love these reports @seanorr.bsky.social gives on the budget talks.
Reminder: council will continue to hear from speakers on the proposed budget. There’s a non zero chance we will get to speakers we missed the first time around.
Continuing here: 384: artist. I love this city but disapprove of this budget. Arts make this a vibrant place to live. This budget defers costs to those who have wealth and putting it on those who have very little. Policing does little to stop crime. I’m last 20 years I’ve seen extreme hardship.
