Rian Johnson has done several of my favorite Agatha Christie subgrenres—country house murder, murder in an exotic locale, gothic novel-inspired murder—and now I’m waiting for my favorite “murder on a mode of international transportation”

Oh, is there a sportsball happening? 😏
Do Bluesky users know you can mute a topic without loudly announcing you're doing it and therefore too cool to discuss the thing everyone else is talking about? That's a feature they recently added, check it out

ST TNG producers: It's your first time directing an episode. Do you have any ideas for shots you want to get?

Jonathan Frakes: Yes, I have one.

Big news in Vancouver: Hastings Racecourse has announced it is permanently ending operations at the venerable racetrack, after the province pulled the revenue it gets from the slot machines on site.

A lot of moving parts to a very valuable piece of land in the city.

West 4th BIA is offering free parking on Sundays for 2hrs. I'm sorry, was there an abundance of empty parking spots? Was THAT the problem keeping ppl away? I bet if you removed all parking on 4th for bus lanes, you'd have more people visit because they won't be stuck in what is usually is traffic.

Called it. UPS rescheduled delivery for tomorrow.
Lego Enterprise arriving tomorrow by UPS which means there's a 90% chance they'll leave a slip despite me working from home, leaving a note on the door, and including my buzzer number on my address on the order form.

Congrats to Vancouver for hosting a sporting event that "isn't about politics" that just gave Trump a peace prize after committing war crimes and rounding up humans in his country at an alarming rate

Was talking about stuff like this with a friend: it's a self fulfilling prophecy not to give consumers a choice and then be like, "See, this is what people want"

This is exactly what churches should be doing, calling out injustice.

📌 Lake Street Church Nativity: a bold social justice statement with ICE-like Roman soldiers, the Virgin Mary in a gas mask, baby Jesus zip-tied, Joseph on the ground, pushing viewers to think about immigration.

When I criticize the Liberal government in any way at all, no matter how reasonable, my free and paid subscribers on Substack go down. This dynamic creates a perverse incentive, which I refuse to give in to.

But this is a major problem.

there's a certain personality that's very debilitating in modern life. 100 years ago, if you wanted to buy something, you'd go to five local shops and decide. now with the internet, you need to spend 1,000 hours so you can own the best version in the world like you're some venetian patrician

I saw Wake Up Dead Man again tonight. It’s certainly theological, thinking about Christianity in our moment…but it’s also a sermon about cinema itself, a testament to the power and majesty of the stories we tell on screen, and of our faith that they tell us something profound about ourselves.
