A real piece of work in progress. Comics and music and wrestling and soccer and nature and, look, probably family stuff. Almost Toronto. (he, him)
Diving into the Booker winner. Pretty sure it’s going to be uplifting and feel-good.

I don’t think I interact with many Toronto FC people here (which is probably healthier for my sanity tbh), but heads up that @tfcrepublic.bsky.social is having a Black Friday sale. Finally pulled the trigger on a subscription—great writing and reporting on all things #tfclive. ⚽️

Another cool find at Emerald Arch in Ecuador was this membracid treehopper (Anchistrotus sp.) with its enormous helmet. While much more sluggish compared to other treehoppers, this species is quick to break off and drop its helmet when disturbed, allowing it to take off swiftly to escape danger.

For #NationalIllustrationDay, we're spoilt for choice by the illustrations we could post!

We've settled on this hand-coloured lithograph of Strelitzia reginae by Francis Bauer who was employed as first resident botanical at Kew in 1790 with the grand title of ‘Botanick Painter to His Majesty’.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

(Happy kickoff day of Shawn’s thoughtful critiques on Every Corporate Christmas Tree in Toronto thread to all those who celebrate this joyous season.)
Shops at Aura tree. Snow dusted wonderland under (for now) Canada’s tallest residential bldn. Formal skirt transitions to snow fam exploding w uncontainable joy in witnessing drive-by action Santa. A perfect scene to visit & revisit, each time seeing more. 11/10

The Joker vs The Skipper Thanksgiving Dinner Showdown! Their fight over Anton is probably the most tragic aspect of what undoubtedly was a bitter feud, as I’m sure Anton used to play concertina at the Lobster Barrel before Cesar worked his charms to lure him away… “For you, my dear Anton - A PIANO!”

Great review in which many of the reasons I love Ben Sears’ work are better articulated than I could have attempted.

He’s a singular cartoonist who makes me think of greats in other fields like animation and picture book illustration, but is also unmistakably Comics.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

It’s always 3 am somewhere.
1990s house artists the KLF went into the funeral business 23 years after they burned a million quid and disappeared from the music industry and today is their annual Day of the Dead where they add more bricks containing human ashes to a pyramid that they plan to complete in 2323.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

IMPORTANT!

(I am just so so so so tired of all this, but I guess jumping through hoops to stop the anti-life machine is part of the deal when you use free, but also paid, software programs.)
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.
