It sometimes feels ludicrous to study literature when jackbooted thugs are murdering people in the streets and shipping innocent people to camps. But if I'm going to be an academic in such a moment, at least I get to study this.

In addition to this, it is also often canny and calculated and deliberately orchestrated to produce certain results.
Nonviolence is not passivity. It is the polar opposite. It is an active measure. It is a demonstration of commitment, courage, and love.
It also bothers me that people characterize nonviolence as the strategy of idealistic fools without engaging at all with the long history and theory of nonviolent movements.

It really is not difficult to find examples of successful nonviolent movements.

One of the teachers told us about how she was part of the groups guarding ballot boxes from Marcos’ goons so like anyone who wants to contest the role of strategic nonviolence or the importance of elections is welcome to track down Ms. Ramos in Metro Manila.
Living in the Philippines, where we took a day out of usual classes at school to hear our teachers talk about what they did in the EDSA revolution to oust Marcos, was also possibly helpful.

Really, really recommend that Minnesotans in particular disable autoplay, I know it's annoying to have to click to see a GIF but it's not worth the mental health costs of seeing the first seconds (before you scroll by) of murders in our city over and over and over.

I truly understand the pleas for ICE to leave Minnesota. But leaving MN to go terrorize other states isn’t what anyone wants.
ICE/DHS is kidnapping and murdering people in the streets AND IN DETENTION CENTERS.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.
