Time for another what-is-AI thread, because there’s a lot of confusion, seeded on purpose by shitty vulture capitalists trying to sell stuff.

AI is a legit branch of computer science with a LOT of different approaches & addressing MANY different types of problems.

Seen a bunch of “where are the 2A types now to fight the tyrannical govt?” replies, so want to add this.

It’s not inconsistent that they aren’t fighting, bc there are two definitions of “freedom” here, and they are thinking of the other one.

"Where is the NRA now" posts are, I think, useful frames for noting the key insight of Cowie's Freedom's Dominion:

There are two types of freedom:

1. FROM oppression.
2. TO oppress.

And (2) has always been what the NRA types embraced.

So Trump IS LIBERATORY for them.

Imagine spending your whole life cos-playing and fantasizing about fighting the federal government sending troops in against its own citizens only to root for the government when the moment finally arrives

To be clear:

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.

Los Angeles County officials voted on Tuesday to declare a state of emergency over ongoing federal immigration raids.

The people I see advocating respirator use, including myself, are disabled and speaking from necessity and firsthand understanding of the consequences. I'm sure there are people coming at the issue from fear, but I haven't seen that.
I know people won't adopt it widely, but stigma is still injurious

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

That sounds like the perfect sick day, like if you planned one out. Hope you’re feeling better soon, then you can post thirst trap selfies and we can all squint & try to figure out if it’s really you 😂

These ladies are fantastic and I am SO GLAD that a prominent Senator is hearing this from someone!! Sometimes I feel like they’re all in their lil DC bubbles and think of the rest of us as radicals or haters or whatever. She did a great job representing.

"What do you have to say about the capitulation that you participated in?"

Cory Booker clearly wasn't expecting the pushback he got from @ivehaditpodcast.bsky.social

Alarmingly, you still look pretty great puffy and sick. I’m sorry you’re feeling crappy but glad the shepherd’s pie pulled thru for you. Those things are fantastic. Meat and potatoes is just top tier comfort food, particularly when made tender and easy to spoon great hunks of.

I’m gonna need a new house or like loft or something with big walls for my Art Collection!

I’m putting a whole raft of artists on retainer and going full Medici with all kinds of lavish and elaborate portraits of myself and my fam and whatever else catches my fancy.

lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

Those are gonna look so cool!!

Oh, this is devastating. I’m so sorry. 🫂 May their memory—the closeness and fun you shared as kids, and not the withdrawal of love as adults—be a blessing.

So this is related bc naked people are scary bc they might be spank bank material? Maybe. Seems more likely that he’s trying to prop up the White House’s narrative that the protesters are scary and dangerous because they’re violent criminals.
ellyzoe.bsky.social
When the most threatening thing you’ve ever seen is a naked bike ride?? I don’t even know, man. He’s clearly trying to force this narrative of scary antifa warriors, but Portland’s just knocking the narrative deconstruction out of the park. 🩵🩷❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤 Keep it up, babes.

Ooo I loved Babel, but didn’t like the Poppy Wars past the first book. I have Katabasis on hold with the library too. It sounds like a fun ride. PhD students in hell! Too straightforward a metaphor? Not for me 😉

Words are super weird. I kind of love the convoluted histories behind the most straightforward-seeming ones.

People who get accustomed to treating things like people are prone to treat people like things.

Yup! That’s the original meaning of the word, but it really got taken over 😂

Pink (the word) comes from the verb “to pink”—to cut with a zigzag edge. There is a flower with petals that have edges like that in the UK, named a pink after the verb, and you can probably guess what color it is usually. 😉 The color got named after the flower, which was named after the verb.

Contemporary romance is one of the few fiction genres that is often actually very funny. Romance generally is basically always having a good time even when it’s trying to do something serious, but there are a lot of very funny writers. So far I’m really enjoying this one!

Sort of like copyright law! We’re all adults here; what’s a little theft/psychosis/suicide encouragement between friends?

Yikes 😬

Who needs restrictions! We’re past all that.

I’d mod to “was occasionally a very good poet” and say his much more talented bud TS Eliot had the same beliefs but didn’t act on them bc he was pathologically cautious/cowardly and left his vile antisemitism/racism/anti-Italian-ism(??) on the page to be immortalized with his most piss poor poems.
