oh hey, I just read that book on my vacation the other week!

I can usually get it (I think??) if it's dependent on how it's being used in the sentence, or at least I'm AWARE that it's partly dependent on how it's being used in a sentence, but jesus perhaps the disconnect between CMS and MW is my issue (bc I'm only ever looking at MW)(if I think to look)

I mean after THAT he like chained it to the slab it was standing on, but

oh our neighbor's garage blew away one spring when we got our usual springtime high winds 😅 they were newer to the area and he didn't want to pay taxes on an extra garage, so instead of a foundation he just bought like a freestanding garage and didn't have it bolted down in any way

oh god yes that helps the focus too! but also I just generally struggle with screens, it's like the words move around more. or my eyes do. or....something

...given how flat Kansas is I can imagine a thunderstorm is probably more alarming there than it is here
November 29, 2025 at 12:42 AM
yes I'm working on copy edits, why do you ask
November 29, 2025 at 12:30 AM
my sister was always scared of thunderstorms, but I liked them! and I like them again after a summer that did not go the same way, but wow, I got super anxious there for a bit 😅

the extra silly thing is, we're seeing this woman for the first time in the POV of a character who is himself about old enough to have a 25yo daughter, so HE certainly isn't going to think she's old, and yet
November 29, 2025 at 12:09 AM
I KNOW I'M SO SORRY
November 29, 2025 at 12:09 AM
oh 🥹
November 29, 2025 at 12:08 AM
of course getting myself to sit down and read the print format is a struggle, but
November 29, 2025 at 12:07 AM
I also love paperback the most! they're cozy and smell good, and also I just have a significantly easier time focusing on a print format than other formats

and then *I* go "hey this is actually destroying education, maybe we don't give in" and I'm sure people are sick of me at this point, but like. *gestures at thread* (which admittedly was only a bit about genAI, but even so)
November 29, 2025 at 12:07 AM
reasons I'm concerned every single time at my day job (administrative assistant at a university) people bring up genAI in edu bc it's always "how can we use it/how can we buy into this/how can we keep up on this" and not "hey this is actually destroying education, maybe we don't give in?"
November 29, 2025 at 12:06 AM
the extra silly thing about this is that I was born to younger parents, so like. why is this hard for me to remember when I know how old my OWN parents are relative to my age lmfao
November 28, 2025 at 11:53 PM
how is it that on one hand I'll write like OLD old characters and that's fine, but on the other hand I'll describe someone with a 25yo child as "old" forgetting that they'd probably only be in their late forties or early fifties unless they had kids late
November 28, 2025 at 11:50 PM
and despite the fact that [redacted] is stated ON THE PAGE to have died just shy of 36, and also despite the fact that their child died young, in my head they're a crotchety old fiftysomething simply bc parent
November 28, 2025 at 11:50 PM
this happened with Keeper, too

like in my head Yafa and Khalid were older but then I realized ..............they'd be my age. or even a little younger. I could've had a whole 13yo child by now if I'd had kids, I just didn't have kids
