Hello, Bluesky followers! In case you didn’t know, I’m making a game with a cool buncha folks and we just started talking about it on Bluesky. You should follow our studio account and check out the other devs working on it! It’s all in this handy dandy thread below 👇
Hey Bluesky! It’s Ward Games, your favorite indie game studio. If you’re following us elsewhere across the ‘Net, you know we’re working on a pretty cool game: Project Lexa, a sci-fi mystery where you explore a planet where everything is written in an alien language! ward-games.com/post/what-th...
What the Heck Have We Been Working On?
A surprise update!

C# has a built-in class called "SemaphoreSlim", which sounds less like a class and more like a 19th century Old West bandit.

Called and spoke with Adobe customer support and the guy told me Adobe is discontinuing Animate because apparently the company can't think of any new features to add to the program and they feel it's gotten stale.

So they're just GETTING RID OF IT???

Can't now find it but there's a classic old tweet which said something like "Every time we're on the verge of achieving class consciousness in America a CIA sleeper agent activates and, their eyes glowing red, they just tweet out "John Brown was a white saviour"" and I think about it often.

Now you too can play a slowed down version of a game from 20 years ago with no actual level design or enemies and all it costs is a complete collapse of the world economy, biosphere, education system, and multiple entire creative industries.
Project Genie is an an experimental research prototype that Google gave @jaypeters.net access to this week, though he may not be using it in exactly the way Google intended.

Here's Jay's version of something like Super Mario 64:

A corollary is that participation in a game’s production from non-producer devs is a requirement. A good producer can’t be a good producer if the team isn’t helping them. No, it’s not fun to update tickets or have a working knowledge of what’s on your plate, but not doing so forces another person to
The truth of video game production is that production labor is a fixed entity; the work of production *must* be done for the game to ship and it will be done. The difference between good and bad producers is that good producers do it, while bad producers have it done around them.

They're still around every block planning to assault your neighbors. Families still cannot leave their homes to get groceries or work to pay their rent. There is no sign of change - don't let your guard down and keep supporting those in need.
This morning, federal agents staged at the Powderhorn Park Recreation Center lot and began to throw chemical irritants at observers. They also kidnapped an observer. Our parks are meant for our children, youth, and neighbors. They should never be militarized zones meant to separate families. 1/

the videogame industry kept growing in money/scope as long as it did because there was new technology for it to attach itself to for investors to be interested in. that's no longer really the case anymore - and so videogames as a whole now are going to have to find a different identity.

Hey yall. As you've seen here - unfortunately a large portion of the ivy road team was laid off today, myself included. We're all looking for work! Gonna do a quick thread about those who were laid off today and why you should hire them:
While we've gotten affirming feedback on Engine Angel, pitching unfortunately hasn't been successful. As a result, we've had to make the hard decision to lay off five team members. Each of these devs are incredible: if you have a place on your team, or know someone hiring, please keep them in mind!⬇

I think overall it’s probably good that Under New Management TikTok is making people reconsider being on that platform. I stopped using TikTok about a year or so ago and feel great about it. I was watching TikToks to an unhealthy extent.

Behind (almost) every beloved auteur is a team of incredibly talented, often marginalised people who will be jettisoned into unprotected obscurity the minute their work draws even the lightest criticism towards the person taking all the credit 🤷

The community of a game is in many ways a by-product of that game's design, and of design considerations that need to be thought of at the beginning if you want to be intentional about them.

When you're designing a multiplayer game you are also designing your game's community and social space

Video games do not cause violence. But we as an industry are clearly not ready to have a conversation about how we've normalized a military fantasy
I am watching what is happening in Minneapolis on Ali Velshi and one of the ICE officers (off camera) literally says, “It’s like Call of Duty. Pretty cool huh?” as they shoot whatever it is they are shooting. Agents walking around, guns unholstered for no reason. This is insanity
