Here's some for the #BirdButt crowd-- can you tell who these butts belong to? Answers in alt text

A bright white butt and belly, with darker wings and head and pink legs. There is a bit of a yellow stain at the base of the tail, but otherwise this is a typical Black-throated Blue Warbler male plumage butt.

A gray butt, cloaca visible as a part in the feathers, with a slight yellow wash. Dark legs. White spot on a black tail, dark wings. This is a Yellow-rumped Warbler butt.

HERE IT IS:

1 in 40,000? 1 in 200,000? Who knows. But it's likely the only leucistic California Towhee I'll ever see.

Finding it took over 5 hours, I got about 20 seconds of solid shooting time thanks to ravens and squirrels, but it was WORTH IT! 🪶

Today I got up an hour before sunrise to look for a rare bird. Only-a-handful-that-look-like-this-in-the-world-now rare.

All the reports made it seem like a simple walk in the park. Literally. They all said it's in a parking lot

5hrs and 4.5 miles walking later, I captured 12 seconds of footage. 🪶

Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) this is one of the older paintings in the collection, still a party favourite though.

Even when a painting is finished it’s never finished. There’s always something that bugs me but this painting of the Bearded Screech Owl has dodged the re-visit bullet. Maybe because I don’t quite know what to make of it.

Still working on the hummingbirds. Painting these guys is hard since species accuracy is the goal here, being arty is a distant second

Here’s a painting of one of my favourite Wood-Quails, the Black-breasted Wood Quail, (Odontophorus leucolaemus)

Maybe it’s just because we found a healthy family group of them up at our local reserve in Costa Rica.
