This is all true but

1) under no definition are we currently at war with Venezuela under domestic US law

2) since we aren’t, the initial strike was just as much a murder as the follow up

The failure to understand this by a huge range of actors is really driving me up the wall.
If the Venezuelan sailors were enemy combatants, then the 2nd strike is a war crime.

If the Venezuelan sailors weren’t enemy combatants, then both strikes are criminal murder.

It’s that simple.

"Diamond" Lou Philips has more to do on The Chair Company than I would've expected this week! Good for "Diamond" Lou.

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

Sure, they've made an environmentally catastrophic mass hallucination disinformation plagiarism Clippy that will destabilize the world, but also their other goal is to replace human workers entirely and let us humans starve. A boycott of AI is the most important boycott of your entire life.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption

When this criminal was jailed, the judge told David Gentile and America: ‘This is a warning to would-be fraudsters that seeking to get rich by taking advantage of investors gets you only a one-way ticket to jail.’ I guess not

I want to ask how someone so stupid and oblivious could rise to be the "boss" of a company like this, but he's hardly the exception to a rule. I don't care what shampoo you use; I do care whether the art I'm buying from you was made by humans.

"Why stop at AI use? We could have mandatory disclosures for what shampoo brand the developer uses" — Epic boss Tim Sweeney says Steam should ditch its AI generated content disclosure. https://bit.ly/4a193vt

Google's "AI Overview" invents essay I've never written, about a book published two years after I was supposed to have written it, while claiming the book was published six years before it was published. For gifts like these, the global economic teeters on the verge of collapse.

Yup. Even if Trump's policies were both effective and popular (lolololol, I know), Trump's pardons *alone* would be ample fodder.

This weekend Trump pardoned *yet another* drug lord and *yet another* infamous scammer!

This isn't low-hanging fruit, it's fruit delivered in a holiday basket!
And this is so obnoxious because actual-politics is kind of a fucking layup right now.

Your opponents are running a historically corrupt government.

Be anti-corruption. Run on fixing the shit they broke, holding assholes accountable, and improving people’s lives.

Duh.

Reading this thread while in the middle of writing multiple things is, uh, super-depressing! I take some solace in knowing that the other people I'm writing things with are actually using their human intelligence to be creative, but it feels like a drop in the bucket.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

This is... I dunno, this... I despair. It's just so grim. I'm hoping against hope that this is some kind of phase and English courses can include READING again.
At this point, our intro comp/first-year English course has been so heavily revised, it no longer includes a novel, or "extended reading" of any kind, no "specialized" or "historical" reading, mostly in-class assignments, no research essay...and we are still seeing a 40-50% rate of AI misconduct.

My local library has copies of Fate Core, Fate Accelerated, and the Fate System Toolkit, thanks to some generous, anonymous donor. (They're in the Local Authors section.)
My local library system has a small number of ttrpgs. While perusing the shelves, I saw Root, which I had never read. So I checked it out and read it.
The moral of the story is that Libraries might have ttrpgs you can check out, and you can even recommend some to buy.
