In a world that is burning, why would you cede control over the one space that gives you comfort? I get it. But in engaging with weird or dark fiction, perhaps your comfort zone expands. Perhaps it gives you the catharsis that you were seeking.

I’ve been told to my face that my work is too strange + dense and will not resonate at this moment in time, but in two years, it might. I’ve also been told to write more linearly with clear distinctions between good/bad. “Make weird art” is a fun slogan, sure. But are you willing to engage with it?
I think its all well and good to tell people to make weird art or art that is non conformist.
I've been thinking abt this a lot tho and I think it's also important to acknowledge the pushback artists of all kinds get for that. Yes create weird but also, often being weird is very lonely or +

And just thinking back right now....I see ppl yelling every day yeah be weird, yeah do that, go there which again I love but the other aspects of it, the loneliness, the oh I think this, is not marketable (someone will now yell fuck the market I'm sure) are not addressed. It's very isolating.

But the inner fortitude to keep going in a system that is actively selecting against weird, or a community that is only looking for familiar things that comfort them is something a weirdo has to keep up. And all of that in every day adds up.

Being weird or different or doing non conformist things will get you gate kept or it will cause ppl to be off put by you. Sometimes an artist doesn't notice these things and other times they do. Yelling I want weird is very supportive and vital and it can keep someone creating +
