Lately I’ve had the occasion to have a couple of fast food breakfast sandwiches on Saturday mornings, and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a highlight of the week.

Thompson said in a statement “Mobile Fortify is a dangerous tool in the hands of ICE, and it puts American citizens at risk of detention and even deportation.” He also said “ICE officials have told us that an apparent biometric match by Mobile Fortify is a ‘definitive’ determination of a person’s status and that an ICE officer may ignore evidence of American citizenship—including a birth certificate—if the app says the person is an alien. ICE using a mobile biometrics app in ways its developers at CBP never intended or tested is a frightening, repugnant, and unconstitutional attack on Americans’ rights and freedoms.”

I live 100ft away from a retired House rep in his 80s who I see at least monthly at our neighborhood social; he has said to me almost verbatim what Duncan said here. Older members are terrified of walking away from the 20-person 24/7 support network you can't even get in a high end nursing home.

I want broad based progressive taxes to pay for progressive social wellfare programs, but also, what Piketty would lable as; confiscatory taxation of excessive incomes b/c the last decade has shown how corrosive massive wealth accumulation is to public order.

When a government taxes a certain level of income or inheritance at a rate of 70 or 80 percent, the primary goal is obvi- ously not to raise additional revenue (because these very high brackets never yield much). It is rather to put an end to such incomes and large estates,_ which lawmakers have for one reason or another come to regard as socially unacccptable and economically unproductive-or if not to end them, then at least to make it extremely costly to sustain them and strongly discourage their perpetuation. Yet there is no absolute prohibition or expropriation. The_ progressive tax is thus a relatively liberal method for reducing inequality, in the sense that free competition and private property are respected while private incentives are modified in potentially radical ways, but always according to rules thrashed out in democratic debate. The progressive tax thus represents an ideal compromise between social justice and individual freedom.

Last week, following the jewel heist at The Louvre, Weiss suggested they interview author Dan Brown. Staffers questioned what expertise in the matter Brown would provide CBS News viewers? Brown is well known as the bestselling author of the 2003 mystery novel, The Da Vinci Code, about a murder at The Louvre.

On Tuesday’s 9 am call, Weiss suggested a story about how people who are scared of climate change aren’t having children. “She is showing her worst self,” one CBS News journalist told Breaker. “People are running to avoid her.”
