mutuals: I'm playing with a self hosted/federated e2ee discord alternative (matrix) - if anyone would like to test it for usability with me, shoot me a dm and I'll throw you an invite token
yeah, if this is the reason it's a pretty great reason for closing the minneapolis press to be a giant embarrassment for the strib

their ducks: not even in a row. in disarray. shambles

our ducks: slowly arranging themselves into uncountable phalanxes
Austin PD's statement was even more explicitly pro-protest, they literally thanked everyone for coming out lol

the crowd sizes are obviously the highlight here but the fact that *this* is the public statement of the NYPD does not bode well for the regime. or, put another way:

I do not regret to inform you that we are going to win
ZERO arrests at No Kings in NYC. (And the NYPD isn’t notorious for being sympathetic with people anti-Trump.)

This proves what shameless liars Speaker Mike Johnson & Karoline Leavitt are to slander the participants as violent anarchists.
seeing a senator drape the trans flag over his shoulders at a protest yesterday and unequivocally saying "trans rights are human rights"

They just want to post, that’s the key to understanding this moment
Some folks were worried that they'd sic thugs on the protestors or declare martial law. Instead they posted AI videos and complained.

These people have no juice. Their supporters are cowards. They are are all bark and no bite. They collapse when we push back. Remember that.

Some all-time great corrections coming from WaPo coverage of the nationwide No Kings protests yesterday:
do we know if they're already printing in Iowa? that could push print coverage out a day

no one reported on the we love mpls training slideshow i leaked. no one reported on the entire 1 hour long all of mpls call i recorded that i know media got. they don’t care, they won’t cover it, we have to do it instead
Not a single mainstream media outlet reported the campaign violations and conflicts surrounding All of Mpls, We Love Mpls, and Thrive Mpls.

They're not just "missing the story." They're protecting the system--and themselves.

90 FUCKING PERCENT

i’d love for cis folks to remember what the nyt, atlantic, guardian, daily mail, times of london, ny post, cnn, wall street journal, & economist took from your transgender neighbors & loved ones before the next time you consider giving them money or listening to a word they say.
It’s almost like when you don’t have a rabidly trans-hostile media ecosystem, people generally support human rights.

Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) at the Boston No Kings rally today, wore the trans pride flag like a scarf draped over his shoulders and included in his speech. "Because here in Massachusetts, we stand for what is right. We stand with trans people because trans rights are human rights."
great work minneapolis, wish I could have been there with you
also, the blue line is such a nice ride. and more transit stations should have coffee shops and vending machines in them

your analysis of this political moment is going to fail if you keep using reductionist labels like "wine mom". first of all, there are dozens of factions just within that one term, from whiskey women to chardonnay chicas, and understanding their unique informal coalitions can take decades of study
(17 from Lyndale into downtown -> blue line)
took transit from the Wedge neighborhood to MOA today. it really seems like it should be a lot faster than the hour and 15 minutes it took each way
I spent my wedding anniversary there two years ago!

every smug internet communist tweet about showing up to a No Kings protest with an abolish ICE shirt to scare the libs is getting completely mogged by the real-life winemoms showing up with slogans like "ICE will melt in hell"

Minneapolis is showing up and showing out. #NoKings

folks can complain about the effectiveness of scheduled orderly mass protest but to think about it another way its the closest thing we have to the opening scene of A Muppet Christmas Carol where all the muppets sing "there goes Mr. Dipshit, there goes Mr. Ass" to Scrooge and it clearly bothered him

For those not from around here: St. Cloud is just *full* not only of Trumpists, but of virulent, violent racist Trumpists. Everyone at that rally knows they’re in a minority and that they might be in danger. Look how many came anyway.

We can win this.
My mom sends this No Kings report from St. Cloud, MN

No Kings has the highest axolotl-to-journalist ratio of any march I’ve ever covered.

Whoever came up with the idea of mocking this gratuitously cruel regime with cute, nonthreatening plastic frogs really hit a gold mine. The clever imagery has made it all the way across the Atlantic.
