The thing about everyone being an iconoclast dissident is that it means nobody feels responsible for building or maintaining anything.
one of the stranger parts of US intellectual culture is people desperate to convince themselves that they're dangerous radical dissidents while writing for, for instance, the New York Review of Architecture or working as tenure-track professors.

An example of how Trump is a vehicle for grievances because everyone driven by resentment projects onto him. A leftist like AOC feels America is beautiful and wants to improve it. A crank leftist likes the idea of destroying America, but is totally powerless, therefore they approve of Trump doing it

i genuinely cannot stand the kind of imaginary radical who does a kind of pose of rebellion which defends the status quo in words which purport to attack it
anyway, you can playact at being a radical by defending the prerogatives of the most powerful man on earth, a pedophile billionaire, or you can take the word of the fucking author herself.

Sounds crazy, I know, but this crowd really believes that most people share their worldview and personal bugaboos, and the only reason it looks otherwise is crusading Moaists captured all institutions and used their dominance to force people to parrot radical leftist views.

No, seriously, they do.
Americans are tired of what coastal elites have been shoving down their throats, so I think elevating fresh voices like the vice president, the head of one of the most valuable companies on the planet, a Times columnist, and a Jeffrey Epstein associate who teaches at Harvard is a risk worth taking.

ICE is arguing in court that US CITIZENS can be detained, handcuffed, and biometrically screened unless they can prove citizenship on the spot. And that a REAL ID isn't enough. This isn't border security. It's a "papers-please" America where freedom is conditional and innocence comes last.

"We're doing it for the oil" is simply the public relations laundering for "we want to punish our racial enemies", which is (for now) still a step too far to say in public even among the racists

"They're doing it for the oil" is cope to try and make a racial violence issue about money and resources
I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.

Every House Democrat signed a discharge petition to force a vote to extend the subsidies.

Every single one, whether you want to be their bff or think they’re Satan because you can’t do math. 0 Republicans did, inc all the ones giving angry quotes.

Republicans control the majority. Vote them out.
The Affordable Care Act tax credits expire this month.

Tens of millions of Americans could lose their health insurance.

House Republicans have created this healthcare crisis because they don’t give a damn about you.

yeah I refuse to rewrite this history. harris ran a _very_ tight campaign with a few (not zero!) missteps. trump was a total shitshow. the closing argument was literally a dead squirrel.

the media made it clear that debates are the most important thing ever. she disemboweled him. they didn't care.
I'm sorry, why are we retroactively acting like his campaign was particularly good in 2024? It was a shit show, it just didn't matter.
