The organizational imperative for “growth” — for any kind of org — without some moral underpinning for what that growth is good for has bothered me since I was a kid. I’m not against growth. But explain to me why bigger is better and more is more than more in a way that has integrity

Theoretically 🤣 But that album has so much life!

Can we judge a book a little by its cover? Or at least our excitement for said book? For all these hopeful leaning albums, I could use some more bright invitations

I was stoked that Connections last week had so much Alex Chilton outside of the designated themes

Only mildly related, I loved looking up the “First lyric” index in Springsteen’s lyric book when it came out and how literal it was. Like 1/3 of the songs start with, “Well…”

I love that there’s interest in assembling things like this.

A book on just that year — focusing in depth on Ole, Africa/Brass, Village Gate and Village Vanguard — would be a treasure

I love Ashley Kahn’s books on A Love Supreme and Kind of Blue. Man, I’d really love something similar on Coltrane in ‘61. The one downside in all the Coltrane books I’ve read, for me, is not enough exploration of Ole Coltrane and Africa/Brass.

“Back then” being the era of “we have 80 min on a CD, we should fill it!” Rancid, on “Out Come the Wolves” was kind enough to put all the unnecessary songs at the end

I’d like to write legislation for more salt on the average everything, and less salt on the average salt

Not that long after he recorded “Rock Island Line” with Fishbone, right? That was a time. Need to watch that doc, thanks for the heads up

I get folks’ disappointment. But because it’s not my favorite era, and I’m not a big Dylan boot collector, this will be a nice addition and goes into plenty of detail for my taste. I’ll be happy to have it in a nice edition. Holy cow, Sony made this just for me! 😂

Watching the Diane years now is a great lesson in how writing is different in the era of binge. You couldn’t have that on-off-will they-won’t they energy if you’re writing for binge. It worked incredibly when there was a forced week off between eps

I hadn’t really watched since it was on originally (and then not much post-Diane). Listening to Ted Danson’s pod and hearing all the comedy writer guests expound on Cheers’ influence sent me back to rewatch. It’s been a blast
