It has been three days since I last had an apple. The doctors have me surrounded and are closing in. I fear there is no escape.

Never expected to find a record on which I played at a record fair! “Song About Nothing” from 1999. Supposed to be white text on black background but label said that was too tricky to get right.

Always be the person who causes a fellow white person/cis person/het presenting person/bloke/etc etc to go "oh! ...er, well nevertheless" when they thought they'd be safe doing bigotry around you - that you'd agree & join in - and you in fact pushed back, showed them you're not in their gang.
A big part of the current right wing belief system is that everyone is actually just as bigoted as they are, and are only pretending not to be as a public performance ("virtue signalling").

They genuinely thought once they started doing open racism, everyone would join in

A trailer for "the Waltons" popped up yesterday and in a gloomy world, it's worth reading the bio for Will Geer who played Zebulon "Grandpa" Walton.
He was a left wing activist , blacklisted , gay and probably more importantly a gardener.

American date order (9/11) makes sense until you add the year (9/11/26) because the units of time aren’t in size order, they’re all over the place.

It would make sense if, for file names and sorting, they also moved the year to the front (26/9/11). That’s handy.

But they don’t. It’s maddening.

I always wondered, when I read Suetonius, how everyone could put up with Caligula for so long.

I think I understand better now. The institutional and social inertia is so strong, especially among elites with “something to lose”. No one wants to stick their heads up first, so they go into denial.

Headphones are broken. As usual it’s not the noise cancelling that’s stopped working but the charging port… *sigh*

Seems unfair that you only get to use the bouncy slide to get off a plane when things have gone wrong. The bouncy slide should be a treat they give to the best passengers who did the flight correctly.

There are really convincing use cases for "AI" but the current laser focus on using it for GenAI is tarnishing the whole field's reputation.

What it's good at is the ACTUALLY tedious stuff. Making art of any kind is never tedious; the creation process is part of the enjoyment.

I suspect the “Confused By Pronouns” and “Afraid To Make A Mistake” narratives are the gateway drug to full on transphobia and should be challenged whenever you hear them.

I can't trust politicians who are anti-trans. Not because I'm "only searching for perfection" which is what centrists will be accusing me of for the rest of my life, it's because if you're not pro-trans you'll be garbage on lots of other issues too. Being anti-trans NEVER exists in a vacuum.
