I have often said of right wing extremists "I can't make a country with these people." MS Kohut explains just what I mean in this insightful piece. Not much has changed since 1860.

Absolute facts, and I’m waiting for over half of America to wake up to this new reality so we can restore the rule of law.
i'd say it did. the public put a group of thieves, vandals and extremists in office last november and they promptly went about destroying everything that might work to limit their ability to loot, steal and inflicting pain on the people they hate
This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.

It’s kinda wild the President is openly corrupt, Nazi sympathizing, and very likely a pedophile—and most Republicans in Congress are still willing to ignore the Constitution whenever he asks.

Nuzzi's fawning coverage of the sociopathic conspiracy crank she was having an affair with aided his rise to political power, which he is using to perpetrate the worst intentional public health catastrophe of our unnecessarily shortened lifetimes, and THAT is the STORY.

The American political class is so disconnected from voters that they don’t realize that regular folks are totally down with a giant pan partisan jail cell holding everyone involved with Epstein’s crimes.

The reactionary centrists are not ready for what's coming at them with Katie Wilson. They have no natural defenses against a socialist bus-riding mom who's laser-focused on providing direct material gains for the working poor. Probably the most pragmatic left-politician I've ever met

The U.S. should immediately bring back 1950s tax rates and tax the shit out of the billionaires then institute single payer healthcare, free childcare, free school lunch, and very low cost higher education (to begin... bc there would be more woke policy to follow).

Wow! Seattle Mountain Rescue has an emergency e-bike team to quickly find and assist people in need of help far from roads. They posted this great story:

We’re just a lawless country now. Nothing matters. If the powerful want to do bad things they’ll justify it. There are no guardrails.
The author(s) of this memo will come out and they should be shunned the rest of their careers in the law. (Seeing as how John Yoo is a law professor, I’m not getting my hopes up)

Totally logical. I've been discussing college abroad with my daughters since we took them to Europe years ago when little. There are now more reasons than ever to leave the U.S. as a woman. Great idea, can't blame them. This place is rapidly becoming a hell hole.
"In 2025, 40% of women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity. The current figure is four times higher than the 10% who shared this desire in 2014, when it was generally in line with other age and gender groups."
Record Numbers of Younger Women Want to Leave the U.S.
The percentage of younger women in the U.S. who express a desire to migrate permanently has surged in the past decade.

SAME
Very much in a ‘burn down the Democratic Party and replace it with a progressive party’ mood. Annoyingly there’s no way to practically do that in our system without conceding the nation to fascism, so we need to stage a total takeover from within somehow.

Absolutely this. I’m in water the tree camp.
So like, is the divide in the Democratic Party now between the “can we please just pretend things are normal ASAP” faction and the “we will not rest until we refresh the tree of liberty with the blood of the tyrants” faction

And Dem leadership is in the first while the electorate is in the second
