The #DIY #NAS: 2025 Edition is here! It has an Intel N100 CPU, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 10GbE networking, #TrueNAS #SCALE, and 92TB of total storage and it cost me under $1,750 to build!

You might be able to buy it even cheaper than that, too! Check out the blog for details:

I've seen so many people online using the government shutdown as an opportunity to demonize people who receive SNAP benefits, WIC and any kind of government assistance.

Here's the thing:

I agree with those people.

We need to end the WHITE welfare state

BECAUSE welfare works.

Can we wear our Halloween costumes to early voting in Texas tomorrow?

So… we’re putting them on trains and sending them to camps now?
NEW: ICE is planning to build a shadow deportation network in Texas. A proposal outlines a 24/7 transport operation run by armed contractors—turning Texas into the logistical backbone of an industrialized deportation machine.

This is wildly disappointing. SMART tests' execution and management are a core feature that you'd expect from a storage appliance.

I worry about all the new users who'll never set up any kind of SMART tests on their own.
PSA: The scheduling, execution, and monitoring of SMART tests has been deprecated in TrueNAS 25.10.

If you upgrade, your existing scheduled SMART tests are migrated into cron jobs. But new users are on their own figuring out how to implement something equivalent.

I updated the prices on the #DIY #NAS: 2025 Edition and it's a bummer. The motherboard is cheaper, but everything seems to be more expensive--especially the storage (HDDs, NVMe SSD, and SATA SSD)

You think that they lied to us when they said inflation was over?

I lowered Topton N18 motherboards' prices on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/12701456...

- N150 CPU is now $219.99 (-$35)
- N305 CPU is now $399.99 (-$20)

There's a chance this is the last batch of these motherboards (for me). If you've been waiting for a sign to start your #DIY #NAS build, this is it!

Trump’s govt shutdown is another reminder
•We dont have an energy shortage
•Or insulin shortage
•Or housing shortage
•Or teacher shortage
•Or labor shortage
•Or food shortage

We have billionaire excess who buy politicians to deny human rights. We dont suffer from scarcity—but from billionaire greed

My daughter Jadzia, who died in 2020, had Marfan Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder which affected her heart.

For this 5th anniversary, we're raising money for the Marfan Foundation in Jadzia's honor. Would you support us?

We have raised $660 — can we break $1,000?

Trump is literally destroying the White House.

After promising that his absurd $250M ballroom wouldn't interfere with the existing structure, he lied and is destroying the White House.

Wealth & income inequality is at record highs in America, but glad we're spending $250M on a vanity project.
When I was diagnosed with T1D in 2002 while still in college, I remember the diabetic educator telling me in the hospital that I was fortunate to have this particular incurable disease because a vial of insulin only cost about $50 over the counter.
It costs ~$70 to produce a year’s supply of insulin.

Yet, the average annual cost of insulin went from $2,864 in 2012 to $5,705 in 2016 to $18,000 in 2025. A 25,714% markup. That isn’t inflation or supply chain—It’s corporate greed.

Now—California will sell insulin for $11. Make this nationwide!

White supremacy is when Republican men and women in their 20s & 30s praising Hitler, genocide, and rape are “just kids”—but 18-year-old Michael Brown was no angel, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was a thug, 16-year-old Kalief Browder was a criminal, and 12-year-old Tamir Rice should’ve known better.😐
3 of my 5 hygrometers in my AMS units were low on battery. So I figured I'd swap out all the desiccant while I'm replacing the batteries.

This is a bigger #3Dprinting maintenance task than I expected!
An 84TB USB DAS can be had for $1,156 on Amazon today. It'll just take a little bit of drive shucking and *maybe* some Kapton tape on the SATA 3.3v pin.

2. 6 Bay Hard Drive Enclosure ($139): amzn.to/4q0qjX6

Today I will be walking with my kids in memory of my daughter Jadzia at the St. Louis Walk for Victory.

Jadzia had Marfan Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder which affected her heart.

Your gift could save lives and improve the quality of life for people like her.

Appreciate all the sponsors and booths at the Texas Linux Fest, but have to give the award for most fun booths to @briancmoses.com and the Taris-esque DIY NAS and 3D-Printing setup and @frame.work for having their hardware on display. Great stuff!
Here's Isaiah, the lucky winner of the #DIY #NAS: 2025 Texas Linux Fest Edition! Congratulations!
Everybody's gathered around the booth waiting for the announcement of the DIY NAS: 2025 Texas Edition a few moments ago at #TXLF
I'm neglecting my eBay store while I'm at Texas Linux Festival.
