The rising prices every component that went into the #DIY #NAS: 2026 Edition made me want to skip building it the hopes that things get better. But I'm not entirely convinced that things are going to get better.

PSA: The scheduling, execution, and monitoring of SMART tests has been deprecated in TrueNAS 25.10.
If you upgrade, your existing scheduled SMART tests are migrated into cron jobs. But new users are on their own figuring out how to implement something equivalent.

3 of my 5 hygrometers in my AMS units were low on battery. So I figured I'd swap out all the desiccant while I'm replacing the batteries.

Yesterday's unfortunate discovery of a #3Dprinting omission put the kibosh on finishing this #diynas.
But it won't stop me from hooking everything up and to start putting it through some burn-in testing!

My #DIY #NAS building is so extra! The first thing I did with makerunit's #3Dprinted 12-bay ATX case is to squeeze an extra 3 drives into the case by using 3.5"-to-2.5" drive adapters.
