I fear my tipping point into madness is "Thus is un-American" posts in response to ICE terrorizing immigrants. I beg you to open Wikipedia (I would say a book but let's start small) and read up on The Trail of Tears, Fugitive Slave Catchers, Japanese internment, Indian Boarding schools & Jim Crow

Say Her Name is specifically for Black women AND as a Black woman, I honor Renee Nicole Good's sacrifice.

There is no greater love than to love your neighbor as yourself - in my faith, that is quite literally proof of "loving God." And it was Love that got Renee, her wife, and their doggo to stop.

Respectfully, I am going to whisper to some of our white comrades a truth that should be more widely known: You definitely have some ancestors to be proud of, ancestors who refused white supremacy, and poured out their lives in many of these struggles over time.

Time to claim your true history.

A secret internal ICE memo dated May 12, 2025 gave unconstitutional guidance allowing federal agents to forcibly enter homes without judicial warrants to detain undocumented immigrants. Legal experts were aghast at the ICE memo and its implications.

This scam with my name attached started the day after articles quoted me about instagram adding their own sensationalistic and often inaccurate headlines to insta posts in google searches. I do not send emails to strangers out of the blue pushing my wares, so to speak.
I'm furious right now. Read my brief blog entry to find out why. If you're an author, you DEFINTELY need to know about this.

Nekima Levy Armstrong is a civil rights attorney and former president of the Minneapolis NAACP.

She was a prominent part of this story @boltsmag.org published in November on local elections in Minneapolis: She was very critical of "lack of political will" on reform.

Black voters face barriers that make voting hard and frustrating, from long lines to confusing rules. Real change—like easier registration, accessible polling sites, and community organizing—can make every vote count.

When we show up together, we shape elections.

Fine, I did it myself: As of 1/21 evening, 14 Democratice Members of Congress support abolishing ICE, including @joaquincastrotx.bsky.social, who used the term "disband" on @mehdirhasan.bsky.social's show.

Four more have supported abolishing ICE in the past.

The thing about campaigning on or messaging on affordability is that you also have no credibility there either because Price Always Go Up
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

The thing about hating Americans or not that actually gets up my nose is when people don't hate us accurately.

There's a bunch of legitimate reasons we probably annoy you but "why aren't you doing anything about this?" Isn't one of them.

Look.

A year ago if you told me one person was going to play twins, I am going to assume your movie is bad.

Then I saw Sinners.

Now I think the rest of these actors are lazy. Only playing one person. Pfft.

this part of the thread especially!!!

and specifically: you have to invest in your authors, and in your gd midlist. Martha Wells was in these trenches for over twenty years before Murderbot happened.
And you can't assign a number to "weird and interesting." You have to take risks. You have to be OK with failure. Otherwise you're publishing 10,000 titles that are vaguely similar and that's not going to work out for you long term. It's boring.

Yeah for people not up to date on the back story, the conservative war on "Gender Ideology" actually started as a response to Gender Theory, and specifically the impact of Judith Butler's "Gender Trouble" at the United Nations summit for women in 1995.
This is more directly about trans people but "gender ideology" has always kind of meant "the abominal idea that men and women can be equal"

This is a very grim measure of how bad things are: Every year, some amazing federal public employees receive awards. This year's winners were not asked to speak. The organizers "wanted to protect them from being singled out by Trump administration cost-cutters." www.csmonitor.com/USA/Society/...
These awards honor the best US civil servants. What ‘best’ means may be changing.
Organizations that bestow awards for good governance are adjusting to the Trump administration’s staff cuts and criticism of traditional civil servant values.

You wanna take voter turnout seriously? Change this 180-year-old dumbass decision (the reasons back then were, I can concede, less dumbass, but are now completely obsolete). There's no reason to force people to figure out if they CAN take the time to vote. It should be the easiest possible thing.
