11 years! Feels like to mark the occasion I should add one more item to the thread and it’s going to be:

Prayer for Transformation by Kalonymus ben Kalonymus

I am gonna preempt the annual "Hanukkah is just a minor holiday" discourse, with my annual:
Actually, some communities have made a huge deal of it for centuries.

Here is one:
"Hanukkah is the main end of the High Holidays."

I became eligible to apply for naturalization during the first Trump admin, and decided to wait with my application until a Dem admin is back in power (I applied and became a citizen during the Biden Admin). I was afraid of exactly this sort of thing. People told me I was being paranoid.
Immigrants ‘plucked out of line’ at citizenship ceremony at Faneuil Hall “the cradle of liberty”.

If you ever claimed you want immigrants to do it the right way, this should outrage you. On the other hand, If you think this was okay, you need to come to terms with your white nationalist views.

I’m going to keep saying it: both the “male loneliness epidemic” and the techbro obsession with AI are, at their core, about a complete lack of distress tolerance for the messy business of relating to other people and a terror of vulnerability/interdependence.
we talk a lot about the weirdo techbro obsession with immortality these AI necromancy projects embody, but I'm arguably even MORE fascinated by the terror of allowing yourself to experience deep, complex emotions they so obviously reveal

you cannot prevent yourself from feeling grief with an app??

It's hard to talk about this without buying-in to stigmatizing trans bodies, but there's a really cruel part hiding here: The effects of dual puberty (what you force by banning blockers) are the exact elements of trans bodies that cis people later use to justify discrimination against trans folks.

Cis people, I really need you to understand what's happening when "ban puberty blockers" happens. Puberty blockers were a compromise. A *cruel* compromise. What a transitioning person wants is to go through the correct puberty. Ideally you'd do it at the normal time for a body to go through puberty…

The trend precedes this but in the 90s when every sitcom started depicting marriage as a relationship between a hypercompetent, long-suffering, overburdened woman and the overgrown manchild whose antics she has to sighingly indulge … that probably wasn’t great.

Important, exciting research — air pollution dropped 22% in NYC's congestion relief zone within the first 6 months of #CongestionPricing (with reductions in the surrounding neighborhoods, too)

Cleaner air, better transit, great data — all thanks to #CongestionPricing!

my take on fonts is that using either Times New Roman or Calibri as the official font for government documents is insane. you should have a government font that the government commissions and thus places in the public domain. it's like if every government memo was stamped with a Microsoft watermark.
