billionaires should not be allowed to exist because the downside of "one of them loses their mind" is simply too dangerous for a functional society

also, having a billion dollars tends to make you lose your mind
The whole point of democracy is so one person's derangement does not become everybody's problem. It's social hygiene. The fact the richest men in the West are a mix of grotty twelve year olds and deranged apocalypse fanatics is a problem, and we should be honest about it.

This is the fucking most Canadian thing I have ever seen — controlled partying. I love this.
At Yonge & Dundas Jays fans are obeying the pedestrian scramble, as is the custom & returning to sidewalk each light cycle.

This. None of us actually expect that we’re going to see society wide masking anymore.

Masking in medical facilities should be the bare minimum.

A few more people choosing to mask up might save a life.

Every infection is a dice roll with disability and some of us are too sick to take the risk
When we say “everyone should mask” we don’t actually expect people will. We know how selfish people are. But we say it because:

1) it’s factually true

2) if even a few people listen to us that’s a few more lives saved and, as the Talmud says, every life is a universe.
so I restarted Pokemon Legends Arceus because I didn't get very far in the first place and haven't played in years so I forgot everything, this game is fun and cool

Look if Trump wants to demolish the White House he can get enough Canadians to do it again for free

Listen to me. Listen. If you're making images that will only be displayed on screens, YOU HAVE TO LET GO. You can calibrate your screens perfectly, but then 25k people will see it on their shitty $50 monitors or cracked phone and its out of your hands. Don't think of it. Achieve enlightenment.

Whatever you think of the White House as a building or a symbol, the fact is that the image of it being torn apart on a whim two days after 7 million people hit the streets against autocracy is going to make a HUGE amount of people really, really angry, and that's an energy that should be harnessed.

Nintendo has to get better at helping disabled players enjoy their games. they have a track record of not doing that
I'm so glad that in Pokémon Legends Z-A that shiny Pokémon are so easy to notice. Between the sound, the color and the sparkles on screen. I really appreciate it as a disabled player. Cause I don't always notice things due to my disabilities.
shitting on his citizens, tearing up "The People's House", maybe more people will finally recognize that this guy doesn't give a fuck about you. but probably not
I'm Canadian but seeing the White House torn up like that is really jarring (we did it a little differently in 1812 🤪), so I imagine there's a number of American normies who are going to go absolutely ballistic over it, which is good

skepticism? yes, skepticism is the core of good work. cynicism? if you think things don't matter, you'll hurt the people for whom they do, and you'll hollow out your own life.

Love to provide open air access to the part of the white house above the presidential bunker
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

to be clear I do not love all the guys in this image, I am just remarking on the fact that it was sold in my small town in the 2000s, for some reason
did everyone else's video store also sell this poster or was mine just really hip and edgy
I feel so bad for kids today who will never get to experience the joy of picking out a game and then cracking open the case in the car to read the game booklet on the way home
Ludicrous take to say nobody misses the video store. Going to my local video store as a teenager was so fucking good. They had a five movies for five days for five dollars deal that was pretty much the greatest thing ever and a super stoned clerk who had seen every movie known to man
showed Brazil (1985) to my partner tonight. I kinda feel like everyone should watch it, its presentation of an authoritarian state is just so good and unfortunately familiar. it heightens the absurdity, order, incompetence, chaos, and desperation in such clever ways, I really love it
fuck biomedical ethics, I guess! nothing matters!
LRP: actual Nazi shit, but also classic USA shit (e.g. Tuskeegee Syphilis Study). this should scare literally everyone but I know it won't

RFK is undoing human subjects protections so he can conduct placebo trials of vaccines. That means infecting people knowingly. I wonder who will “volunteer” for these trials? If history is any guide, a lot of incarcerated and other powerless people.
Dismantling the Institutional Review Board (IRB), that oversees all human subjects research, is bad. Really bad.
The entire HR department at the CDC is gone. Everyone at the IRB, which makes sure studies are conducted ethically and rigorously, and the ethics office, which oversee conflicts of interest for CDC leaders and advisory committee members, were also let go.

look i wish that the failure of fascism was brought about exclusively by the black bloc and radical activists as much as the next left wing weirdo but unfortunately thats not how history pans out. its a coalition, which, unfortunately, includes normal people

in those fascist takeovers that have historically actually taken root it is almost universal that the middle class has arranged itself with it becoming the new reality long before it does. in that regard, the US fash takeover has been a massive fucking fumble

what trump brought to the republican party, more than maybe any other thing, was contempt for virtue, and he’s demanded that republicans abandon any virtue they might have once had.
It is not so long ago that disability policy was bipartisan. I taught at the Bush School, and George H.W. Bush would talk about his pride in signing the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Every once in a while during the 2024 campaign, I'd meet parents of disabled kids who were part of Moms for Liberty or people who taught autistic kids. @slooterman.bsky.social writes how they are afraid right now as Trump targets special education staff.
