Dad, spouse, economist, cyclist, Lego maniac, long lapsed blogger (not necessarily in that order). Tend to prefer my 70 square miles to the surrounding reality.
Great show this evening by The Beths at Union Transfer in Philadelphia. “Straight Line Was a Lie” is one of my favorite albums of the year.

Inspired by an exchange here yesterday, I wrote up a short piece at CAMPAIGN TRAILS about an infamous Lee Atwater quotation that just about everyone gets wrong.
Southern Strategies
This week, I saw someone on social media trot out a notorious quote from Lee Atwater that's wildly misunderstood. I went back to dust off my old Twitter thread about it, but I found that a lot of the ...

Republicans use the "I'm not familiar with that" dodge several times a day now, and if a reporters or anchor isn't ready and willing to shut them down as soon as they try it, that means they're either incompetent at their job or a willing accomplice to the lies.

Either way, never trust them again.
If they pretend they haven’t heard about the story of the day, end the interview right there.

You can get a 800 W system in Utah for $1.25 a watt ($1k) which is almost utility scale solar prices. Very exciting stuff. Will make a huge difference in renter and apartment heavy cities.
Today on Volts: I've had more requests to cover this than almost any other topic in the pod's history, so now, at long last, balcony solar! We dig into how "plug-in solar" took off in Europe & how it's making its way to the US, starting in Utah. Backyard DIY types rejoice!
What's the deal with balcony solar?
Cora Stryker joins me to explain how "plug-in" solar took Europe by storm and is finally, via Utah (?), making its way to America.

"Affordability" policy based on hoping that people won't notice how much money they're spending (on politically favored expenditures).

Which isn't necessarily an unreasonable expectation.

The second offensively bad Indy Star OpEd I've seen this weekend

Duffy touts that by making cars less safe and less efficient, they can lower the price by 1k. Omitting that tariffs have added 6k (www.kbb.com/tariffs/) and worse stds raise TCO and DEATHS.

I think the *speed* at which RFK Jr and his Great Barrington Declaration/anti-vaxx/Brownstone wrecking crew have been dismantling the US public health system has been really astonishing
Well, Senators Bill Cassidy and Thom Tillis, you wanted RFK Jr. to “go wild” at HHS.

Congratulations. You’ve achieved your goal. He is well on his way to completely destroying the US vaccine program.
