Perfect Tom Stoppard story from DTel obituary:

His response to a letter from Harold Pinter canvassing support for a proposal to have the Comedy Theatre in London rechristened the Pinter Theatre, “Have you thought, instead, of changing your name to Harold Comedy?”

It feels like what you'd get if all the shittest factions from NUS conferences 1985-2015 all formed a political party. And that's because it actually is a party formed by all the shittiest factions from NUS conference.
Chaos has engulfed the first 24 hours of the inaugural 'Your Party' conference in Liverpool, with Zarah Sultana boycotting the first day of the event, Jeremy Corbyn facing "witch-hunt" allegations, and an entryism row

Fwiw it gets its bible wrong. God doesn't "describe Himself in the Bible using "ezer kenegdo"" as the essay states. At various points in the Bible, God is described as an "Ezer" by other people, usually in Biblical poetry that praises God. God is not described as an "ezer kenegdo".

I literally found out about this from Israeli news, which at carried it on their ticker, but then I couldn't find the story on major US outlets.
This seems like the kind of declaration by a U.S. president that should be mentioned *somewhere* on the front page of CNN or the NY Times, but the fact that it isn't (as of right now) tells us so much both about how this president is covered and the credibility of the U.S. government.
Might be kicking off.

How Republicans commemorated Thanksgiving in 1869--with a multi-racial/multi-ethnic gathering of people at a table with a centerpiece celebrating universal suffrage and self-government, and with an engraving of Castle Garden, the pre-Ellis Island point of disembarkation for immigrants.

A proportion of the British media has for the best part of a decade or more yearned for a Joe The Plumber moment and has *repeatedly* tried to manufacture such a figure. Who remembers White Van Dan and his Danifesto?
Also, why the fuck is it news? It’s just the opinion of one member of the public, with no special insight into anything.

Effectively there is no *one* person performing the duties of President of the United States right now. We are in an interregnum with an occupied throne.
The fundamental thing to understand about this administration is the president is a grumpy retiree. He has no interest in working anymore. Which leads to him being pissed that he is getting asked a question, pissed he has to show up and work, the scheming viziers running the show, etc..

The first time a Presidential Thanksgiving proclamation mentioned the Plymouth colony as being the source of Thanksgiving was JFK's 1962 proclamation. First mentions of the 'pilgrims' at all are by Truman, became a theme under Eisenhower.

I just can't tell you how full of rage this whole story makes me. He told them repeatedly that he was filled with horror by museums retaining body parts and he taught them how to do the Yahi cremation-and-burial rituals so it would be done properly.

They removed and stored his fucking brain.
just realised I have spent Thanksgiving day recording a programme about Ishi, known at the time as 'the last wild Indian', the last surviving member of the Yahi group of Yana Native American people, who were murdered in the Californian genocide of Native Americans
