I'm in DSA in part because I believe that the United States' logistical potential for global good makes trying to wrest control of it from those who protect or ignore genocidaires a moral imperative

because tearing it down doesn't save the oppressed, it deprives them of the aid of the most powerful cosmopolitan polity that has ever existed

yes, this country was built on genocide and slavery. but in historical terms something like the united states has never happened before, and the conditions don't really exist for it to happen amywhere else

This is a nonsense accusation. Bostonians are insufferably douchey to EVERYBODY. Any man or woman, whatever color or creed, can walk down the street confident that someone will tell them to go fuck themselves.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development said Thursday that it was opening an investigation into housing policies in Boston, scrutinizing whether the city discriminated against white people.
HUD Accuses Boston of Racial Discrimination in Housing Policies
The Department of Housing and Urban Development is investigating whether the city’s focus on affordable housing for people of color violated federal law.

Tbh the way that Republicans still talk about “basket of deplorables” and “mostly peaceful protests” it’s truly remarkable that Charlie Kirk’s assassination didn’t yield another one of those quotes that they never shut up about

We always should mention the unstated qualifier to every one of these rulings: that the unitary executive doctrine only applies when the occupant of the WH is a Republican or some other type of fascist.
An oversimplified, but not that oversimplified, understanding of the political philosophy behind Trump & John Roberts's unitary executive theory is that democracy means the people vote for one guy, who then gets to decide everything. But real democracy involves a lot more points of public input.

Man I hope the democrats leave Kilmar Abrego Garcia alone, they fucking sold him upriver and left him out to dry for a whole fucking year. He had to claw his own freedom back himself. Anyone who tries to use him as a campaign prop should lose everything forever

This is especially stupid since after a decade of this we know Trump has a floor in the 30s that he will simply never go below
lol wut. dropping from 42 percent approval to 36 percent approval seems pretty significant. apnews.com/article/trum...

I like desperately need someone to make people understand what due process is. I’m fine with punishing drug traffickers! I’m fine with stopping drugs from coming into the country! Everyone is! But you can’t just say “they’re a drug trafficker” and arrest/torment/murder them!!!!
Karoline Leavitt calls Kilmar Abrego Garcia a "proven" human trafficker. Actually, he's been repeatedly proven innocent, and soon he will be completely free.

The “just asking questions”-ification of the Fourteenth Amendment
Giving the game away. he has more “scholarly ammunition” than he did in January because a bunch of professional bootlicks and liars who have never had real jobs started lying about birthright citizenship in January.

it is also just hilarious to insist that eight months of rush job “scholarship” outweighs decades of settled history and 140 years of settled law

One of the problems is a lot of people don’t know what due process is, so when they find out it’s being denied to people they find unsavory, they don’t care. So many of our problems could be solved by remedial civics education or a basic con law class.
just going to reiterate this.

if immigrants don't have due process, no one does. you can't tell citizens from immigrants without due process. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/if-immigra...

Filed with the City Council in Apr 2024. Had hearings, town halls, briefings, votes by Council & House—& then he blocked it in the Senate last Dec. Council passed it again in Feb 2025 & we’re still waiting for a vote.

I don’t have the power to stop State Senators from doing their job, only they do!
Imagine the audacity of Mayor Wu asking the least productive legislature in the country to do some work when they’re already 2 weeks into their 6 week holiday break?

Both would be fantastic Senators but I haven’t really seen a compelling defense of Crockett being a better nominee than Talarico beyond “I like her brand of politics better than his and I’m guessing most voters do too.”

Man I hate Sam Alito
Holy shit this back and forth between Kagan/Alito/Jackson/&the SG.

Kagan: Doesn't your logic mean a whole raft of other agencies must be invalidated?
SG: Yes, but that's not being litigated right now
Kagan: So what?
Alito: What if we just want to say "but maybe don't apply our logic elsewhere?"
