there is actually not a single job currently done by humans, no matter how "skilled" or "unskilled", that AI can adequately replace, which kinda makes burning down all those trees seem...not worth it

Again, there is no plan for running our universities without federal funding, or foreign students, at scale. But the public has no idea about this because no. one. is. telling. them. this. They expect their kids are still going to be able to do all the things at college in the next 4 years, & well:
The entire business model of R1 public universities rests on 4 revenue sources:

1. Federal grants
2. Private gifts/endowments
3. Tuition (esp. from foreign students)
4. State $

For decades, 📈 in 1-3 offset a secular 📉 in 4. Now, 1 & 3 are being decimated & 4 ain't coming back. The math is clear.

Something deeply funny about the fact that conservatives depend on foreign labor to stoke the fires of their own rage
They turned it off because every grifting ragebait account was discovered to be LARPing.
X has changed their policy and now you can see where the accounts are based.

Penguin Random House emailed me last night because their ebook team was going through the citations on TRUE BELIEVER and found like 40 URLs that no longer went anywhere

I had to correct them, and luckily most were caught by the Wayback Machine, but some are just… gone

Gmail has AI options that are enabled by default, to turn it off:

Click on the Gear Icon in the upper right
General Tab, scroll down to "Smart Features" and UNCHECK THE BOX
Right below that is Google Workspace smart features > "Manage Workspace Smart Features" and make sure both toggles are OFF

The irony here is that academics don’t just write the articles for free—we also referee and edit for them for free. Something is deeply broken.
