Pointed out by my friend @carloshasanax.bsky.social . There's something weird and unsettling about a fairly homogeneous culture spread out across Europe that then collapses into an orgy of genocide.

The San Diego Metropolitan Correctional Center was projection bombed last night. Images shown over the prison’s surface decried immigration enforcement, the current presidential admin, and the need to observe a day of mourning rather than one of thanksgiving.

Also, I’m just going to say it, if your objective is national security, I don’t think telling tens of thousands of combat-hardened veterans (and their many American brothers-in-arms) that you’re going to betray them and send them to die in their country, which you destabilized, is a great idea
Every time a US veteran snaps people fall all over each other to point out the effects of war and literal physical changes that PTSD triggers, but one Afghan veteran snaps and we’re going to shut down immigration for all Afghans forever and I bet they’re working on revoking parole wholesale

Abdul-Rauf finished with 19 PTS in the Nuggets' 109-106 win over the Clippers. Ron Harper scored a game-high 20 PTS for Los Angeles.

Once again; you can't moderate your way to neutralizing an issue like immigration.

It's fundamentally just racist reaction. Nothing is ever enough because what's demanded—ethnonationalist homogeneity—is completely unavailable in modern conditions. There will *always* be a basis for more demagoguery
YOU WANTED NET IMMIGRATION TO COME DOWN! THIS IS WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE!

Prediction: Some will seize on the shooting to try to pull Dems back to a position of cowardice on Trump's deportations, and Stephen Miller will scam dimwit commentators into making this case as well, but what happened ultimately won't dent public disapproval of the raids/arrests in the slightest.

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

Reupping this.
Not going to read the article of the day. I can tell that none of the words in that story are in any holy book in any faith tradition so I will keep my peace. 🙏

He fled religious persecution in Turkey. Then he got a one-day notice for an ICE check-in. Now he’s being detained at Otay.

When he was held overnight in the basement of the San Diego federal courthouse, he told his wife he could hear babies crying through the night.

'He’s never told me everything about what exactly happened, but he has scars all over his body,' said Mae Bovenzi, whose husband now fears deportation to Turkey after a routine ICE check-in.

I'm wary of where we could end up if "he's not keeping his promises because he's arresting non-criminals" remains the central plank of the discussion.
November 26, 2025 at 5:25 PM
This is the rhetorical move that the pro-democracy public needs to make.
The problem with ICE is not that it's targeting people who aren't criminals. The problem with ICE is that it's an unaccountable secret deportation police. It cannot be reformed under a better president. It can be made less terrible, but the instrument of repression remains for the next tyrant.

Turns out Mamdani's controversial proposal for government-run supermarkets isn't so novel. Other cities also are toying with the idea to bring fresh, affordable food to communities that do not have easy access to it. Good WSJ read (gift link)
