the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Idk! Naming names, it’s Kirrin Finch, they say they’re for “women & nonbinary people” but also that they’re designed for AFAB bodies. Which implies some troubling understandings of queerness, transness, and womanhood, to say the least.

I tried emailing a particular “androgynous clothing brand” about ads they put out saying their clothes were “designed for AFAB bodies” & their response was to ask me to do unpaid consulting work for them.

Schmautz thinks saying “a bunch of untrained teens are necessary to restore order” is advocacy for his fellow officers rather than a glaring indictment of his own perception of police professionalism.
If the PPA represented trained, professional workers, they wouldn’t want the national guard here.

Still thinking about this. If there was any doubt that cop unions aren’t unions, imagine a plumber saying they need 19 y/os who aren’t trained in the profession at all to come in to do the job despite data indicating their local’s performance improving year over year.
