the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

Idk! Naming names, it’s Kirrin Finch, they say they’re for “women & nonbinary people” but also that they’re designed for AFAB bodies. Which implies some troubling understandings of queerness, transness, and womanhood, to say the least.
acabraham.bsky.social
Wish being trans meant I could give you an answer!
I tried emailing a particular “androgynous clothing brand” about ads they put out saying their clothes were “designed for AFAB bodies” & their response was to ask me to do unpaid consulting work for them.

they aren’t allegations, he’s fucking said this

President Trump’s move to cancel projects in Democratic states during the government shutdown has prompted allegations of partisanship.

Democrats see a pattern of inflicting pain on places that are politically unfriendly.
Trump escalates his use of federal power to target Democratic states
Democrats see a clear pattern of inflicting pain on places that are politically unfriendly, while Trump has declared his intent to hurt liberal areas and policies.

Considering her support of Lance Armstrong, she might not have the ethical backbone to write about sports.

He doesn’t live here & can’t vote here so I guess implying his entire union could replaced by untrained part-timers is the way he can get back at those who’d suggest they need more training.
Schmautz hates Morillo & Kanal more than he loves the PPB, it’s really something.
acabraham.bsky.social
The Op-Ed class knows you can just hire a dominatrix to say mean stuff to you, right? You don’t need to share a piece about how much you love the fascists in hope that someone online will yell at you, there are professionals in the service.
acabraham.bsky.social
Schmautz thinks saying “a bunch of untrained teens are necessary to restore order” is advocacy for his fellow officers rather than a glaring indictment of his own perception of police professionalism.
If the PPA represented trained, professional workers, they wouldn’t want the national guard here.
acabraham.bsky.social
Still thinking about this. If there was any doubt that cop unions aren’t unions, imagine a plumber saying they need 19 y/os who aren’t trained in the profession at all to come in to do the job despite data indicating their local’s performance improving year over year.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Hey, can you follow up on what you meant by Max Steele doxxing people? I hadn’t heard about that, would love to see the Substack or whatever where he did that.

Yeah, so’s the case that’s put the woman at the center of this issue in prison, that’s the point.

Oh I agree, that’s definitely where I think there’s the most to gain from proactive educational outreach from the left. It’s like the summer learning gap for grade school but it’s like 3.5 years & everyone’s a grownup, which makes it harder.

There’s an argument that M110 happened in part due to the George Floyd murder making white liberals more aware of the police’s tendency to escalate nonviolent alleged crime to lethal force. I mean, it was a big year for the blue team but you know what I mean

Gotta turn Sean Duffy going after sidewalks, bike lanes, and public transit into Owning the Republicans by putting bollards on every greenway

This isn’t all on lefties to be clear, I’d love to see Dexter, Wyden, or Merkley do a review of the interior of the ICE building for example. The lawn sign crowd would love that.
There’s a lot of opportunity to find common policy ground in common morality.

IMHO one of the most important things the Portland left could/should work on is explaining the policy connections between Bad Orange Man and local issues in a way that’s palatable for “In This House We Believe” yard sign liberals
