Optical Illusion is an apex-level dumb guy phrase. I have it on the same tier as Social Experiment and For All Intensive Purposes (sic).
lol, now they're saying the Nazi flag is an "optical illusion"
Swastika” Flag In Office of Rep. Dave Taylor (R-OH) May Be An “optical illusion” and “easy to miss”

The weird story about an aide to Rep. Dave Taylor (R-OH) having a flag in his Capitol Hill office with a swastika on it, has just gotten weirder.

Multiple sources tell Fox – including those investigating the issue – the flag in question is an American flag – but with a swastika embedded into the ink or weaving. And here’s the strange part: the swastika is not obvious to the naked eye. But is more visible when captured on video or by a still photo.

One source described this as an “optical illusion.” Another said the swastika was “easy to miss.”

Fox has learned that dozens of Congressional offices received these American flags from an undetermined group who brought them around Capitol Hill early in the year. One office tells Fox that the swastika on their flag was clear, so they tossed it out. But the flag in the office of Taylor was not visible until captured on camera.

It is not known what group brought the flags around. That is under investigation. The US Capitol Police are also conducting an inquiry. Fox is told that that the group brought the flags to multiple offices. At issues is if the group knew the swastika was embedded into the flag. It is also unclear if this was an effort to covertly deliver American flags to lawmakers with swastikas on them. Or, if this was an effort to deliberately embarrass offices by bringing them an American flag – which featured a swastika which wasn’t obvious to the naked eye.
People at my school are saying it's here we have to accept this -- this is what countries said about nuclear weapons. They are here so we better get some to remain competitive. Then people added to their stockpile and upgraded to remain competitive with the response. Did that make the world safer?
I was at my old high school today, for the first time in over twenty years, to talk to the teachers about how their curriculum can better support students. AI came up, and so many teachers were saying "Well it's a tool, they have to know how to use it, it's the future so we have to accept it!"

Teaching students “AI prompt engineering” is such an offensive perversion of inquiry based education it makes me breathe fire.
genuinely what the fuck is an "ai skill" that isn't basic reading comprehension, skepticism, the ability to evaluate sources, and, like, typing?

Windows 10 goes out of support today. My fave useless fact about w10 is that the iconic blue desktop background is a *photograph* - not CGI.

Tiny 'making of' vid here - youtu.be/_2RacX9DgWM...
Three images showing photographers in a studio, standing around a black curtained area with a projector and a 'Windows' logo etched onto a glass pane. The lower image shows a version of the iconic blue windows background, with blue lasers outlining and passing through an angled Windows logos against a dark background.

"Every CEO talking about replacing workers with AI is an example of the real problem: that most companies are run by people who don't understand or experience the problems they are solving. They don't do any real work, don't face any real problems, and thus can never be trusted to solve them."

They should be bad guys. And not in a “Oh Magneto was right!” Tumblr sort of logic way, but in a “they are a species of posthumans who no longer care about the world around them and have made their own” sorta way.
What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷
Apocalypse is stupid -- a big purple Frankenstein monster whose origins are Egyptian, whose name is Greek, whose belt buckle is Latin, and who uses Christian Imagery in the form of the four horseman to spout Victorian era Darwinism. PICK A LANE

There should be no pre-1945 mutants -- all mutants should be the result of atomic testing

There are four major movie adaptations of Little Women as well as a PBS miniseries, and the worst iteration of the story is the novel.

A little frustrating that bsky moderation prevents us from seeing violence like this
Interaction between Derek Guy and Matt Stoller on X, the Everything App. Stoller: "Your weird insecurities aside, you consistently lie that native born Americans can't and never have made clothes, and push offshoring in sleazy ways. Then when confronted you have to talk about your left wing views. You're slime." Guy replies: "not true. i've been writing about and promoting US-made clothes for about fifteen years. an early article that comes to mind is my love for 3sixteen jeans, which are made in los angeles. that was published in 2011, the year the second iraq war ended, a war you promoted."
No Country for Old Men is his best story. All the Pretty Horses is basically good but hella corny. Blood Meridian is simply not a story but it does contain some of the best prose poetry every written and one of the greatest villains every to exist
My real dream is to publish the collected prose poetry of Cormac McCarthy, an 80 page volume that would win him the Nobel prize.
Cormac McCarthy is a one trick pony -- tho admittedly it is a stellar trick. He is so absurdly good at this one mode he does sometimes -- King James Bible inflected gnostic prose poetry -- people think he is a great writer on the level of Melville. But McCarthy can barely tell a story.

The psychology that twists coverage in Trump’s favor is transparent, once you accept that psychology plays a role. They want to be perceived as neutral by their peers, and they know their peers suspect them of anti-Trump bias. So they demonstrate independence by scrutinizing Dems and praising Trump.
There were at least two ceasefires under Biden! In which more than five times as many living Israeli hostages were released in exchange for 240 Palestinians! Has everyone forgotten this?
Also, ceasefires have happened under prior Presidents! The day he gets Palestine their own country he can be told he's the most special boy deserving of a shiny prize.

In a disgusting display, @nbcsn| creates an antisemitic caricature of a Jewish woman, and mocks concerns about Zohran Mamdani's pro-jihadist views.
Meanwhile, just today Zohran Mamdani's wife posted a tribute to a Hamas terrorist on her IG Stories.

it's screencap from an SNL sketch with a character named RHONDA LaCENZO

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
It’s impossible to overstate how much “abolish ice” is the normie position now here in chicago — just countless random moms at toddler soccer on a park district field asking me where I bought my anti-ice t-shirt. average people don’t like our neighborhoods being terrorized.
A friend ran the Chicago marathon today and said he couldn’t count the number of FUCK ICE signs along the way.
