My RETVRN - take a train to Charlotte, go to some kind of bigass Macy’s department store, buy gifts, return home on the train surrounded by parcels like I’m Nora

I thought oh good he’s still letting me take his pic in front of big Christmas trees then got home and actually looked at the photo 😂

We are called upon to place our hanukiahs outside the front door or in the window; “in a time of danger, placing it on a table will suffice.”

This should not be a time of danger. It must not be a time of fear.

Happy Hanukkah.

I’m not sure I have any great wisdom or feeling other than profound sadness about where we are. But I’m glad to be lighting the candles tonight. To pull a clue from a nearly 75-year-old hand-sewn felt dreidel made by a grandmother I never got to know so our son can run around our house in joy.

MARY POPPINS FOR HOMICIDES 👏👏👏
my favorite thing about the benoit blanc movies is that they aren't really about benoit blanc. he is not grappling with demons from his past. we are not getting flashbacks to the husband whose murder he never solved. he just shows up and does his job like mary poppins for homicides

I was in a Barnes & Noble today and there’s no “Like Wake Up Dead Man” table with the novels mentioned in the movie and other classic locked-room mysteries which seems a real missed opportunity

Today is the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting. There are no words to express the grief and anger that our young people continue to be slaughtered in school.

And for what? More guns?

This is a policy failure — and a moral one. Enough.

My heart is with Providence today.

Also, the throwaway joke about conservatives' stunning ability to misread things like Star Wars would have been funny anyway, but it was even funnier from Johnson who made the best Star Wars movie outside of the original trilogy, thank you very much.

Brown University president Christina Paxson alludes to the two "students" killed and the eight or nine additional "students" in the hospital.

This is the first time we've heard it confirmed that the killed and injured people were students.

Watched Wake Up Dead Man and it was so lovely. The ode to the locked room mystery (though the mystery doesn’t really matter). The repeated image of a man’s shadow looming where the cross once hung. The portrayal of a community servant who listens and loves and promises you aren’t alone

AS A PROFESSOR, I AM ASKING

HOW ARE OUR STUDENTS SUPPOSED TO LEARN IN THESE CONDITIONS?

HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO GO TO SCHOOL AND TAKE EXAMS KNOWING SOMEONE MIGHT JUST SHOW UP WITH AN EASY TO ACQUIRE AUTOMATIC WEAPON?

HOW??????????
Longer statement from Brown University:

"We are very sorry to share that we have confirmed reports of multiple shooting victims, but we are not able to share their condition. They have been transported to local hospitals."
