I’m not sure I have any great wisdom or feeling other than profound sadness about where we are. But I’m glad to be lighting the candles tonight. To pull a clue from a nearly 75-year-old hand-sewn felt dreidel made by a grandmother I never got to know so our son can run around our house in joy.

Today is the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting. There are no words to express the grief and anger that our young people continue to be slaughtered in school.

And for what? More guns?

This is a policy failure — and a moral one. Enough.

Also, the throwaway joke about conservatives' stunning ability to misread things like Star Wars would have been funny anyway, but it was even funnier from Johnson who made the best Star Wars movie outside of the original trilogy, thank you very much.

The moment when Father Jud gets caught up in the mystery and he is rushing Louise on the phone and she tells him she feels alone and he stops everything and he talks to her - that’s the movie. And I’ve seen so many colleagues do it too - drop everything for a student in need

Yes! Over and over Father Jud loved people (even when he didn’t want to) and that love and that grace is portrayed so simply and profoundly as the only antidote to demagoguery
