No Country for Old Men is his best story. All the Pretty Horses is basically good but hella corny. Blood Meridian is simply not a story but it does contain some of the best prose poetry every written and one of the greatest villains every to exist

Cormac McCarthy is a one trick pony -- tho admittedly it is a stellar trick. He is so absurdly good at this one mode he does sometimes -- King James Bible inflected gnostic prose poetry -- people think he is a great writer on the level of Melville. But McCarthy can barely tell a story.
