At a time when billionaires would be all too happy to replace artists with AI slop, I think it's important to celebrate artists like Drew Struzan.

If you've seen a movie poster in the past 30+ years, you've seen something he did. A true master of the craft.

Why would a billionaire want a functioning paper? Functioning papers cover shit like “did you know this billionaire makes his workers pee into bottles instead of taking a break” and “you pay way more tax than a guy with ten yachts”

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

A mom in Houston reported her 15-year-old son with autism missing. She spent 6 days terrified, searching for him. The whole time, Houston police knew exactly where he was since they helped ICE place him in a refugee facility.

This is beyond cruel.

I love this! I have an illustrated book of the crow rhyme that is one of my favourite possessions. I’m invested in this story
An illustrated page from a book called Crows/ in a drawn picture frame there is a solitary black crow flying across a grey sky. Under the frame are the words One is for bad news. Below that is a sketch of a white hare in a tunic and pants on one knee with a posey of pink flowers in one paw with other hand to his heart. A pale butterfly flutters above him and a spooky tree grows to the right of him

Feeling normal for the first time in a while, getting some words down.
Her laugh, a filthy cackle, reverberating from her throat, a wet, rattling noise, shaking the night like the call of some nocturnal bird; a corvid's crackling cry. I could imagine her like that, some pitch black winged thing, with her wild tangle of ebony hair, could almost see the oil-slick iridescence of the feathers. Something beautiful and cruel, intelligent and dangerous. Something sustained daily by the liver of Prometheus.

It still made sense to think of Grace as some manner of corvid, as she was smart and loyal. She responded well to gifts. There was a price of admission to her affections. New things, shiny things. But she was no longer dangerous or exciting. Ten years into our relationship, I regarded her as a solitary magpie, a harbinger of sorrow.

I had a friend who was 6'1" and when guys would exaggerate their height around them, they would say they were 5'10" which, I imagine, was a devastating emotional blow.

you know that critique of ai that says it’s like taking a forklift to the gym and expecting to get stronger? well this bit of that guardian article about people using chatgpt in dating apps kinda proves it correct
Which is why the man who greeted her inside the pub – polite, pleasant but oddly flat – felt like a stranger. Gone was the quickfire wit and playful rhythm she’d come to expect from their exchanges. Over pints he stumbled through small talk, checked his phone a little too often, and seemed to wilt under the pressure of her questions. “I felt like I was sitting opposite someone I’d never even spoken to,” she says. “I tried to have the same sort of conversation as we’d been having online, but it was like, ‘Knock, knock, is anyone home?’ – like he knew basically nothing about me. That’s when I suspected he’d been using AI.”

Rachel gave her date the benefit of the doubt. “I thought maybe he was nervous,” she says. But she’d been “Chatfished” before, so when the gap between his real and digital selves failed to close on their second date, she called it off. “I’d already been ChatGPT-ed into bed at least once. I didn’t want it to happen again.”
