Much common sense here. Not sure EU regitrations of new cars willl ever hit the same level again, as many younger do not want a car, and more can also be covered by the car sharing companies, and later robo-taxis as are on the march in the US.
We need a EUropean battery company to replace Northvolt.

The car crisis tops today’s EU summit but leaders keep staring at the wrong problem
The issue isn’t the 2035 engine ban - it’s demand falling off a cliff today
With @sandertordoir.bsky.social and @lucasguttenberg.bsky.social, we show why flipping regs won’t help - and what the EU can do instead.

I once had to walk home from A&E at 3 o clock in the morning. Took me an hour with my nervous husband on the phone because he couldn't wake our kids who had school the next day. All ended up fine but the lack of taxis and buses was very shocking to me.

This story is a partnership between Grist and Foreign Policy, with support from the Pulitzer Center. As Paramaribo, Suriname, flooded with shin-high water during a rainstorm in June, hundreds of taxis jostled for space on a recently paved street on the outskirts of the capital city. Passengers in suits disembarked alongside an overgrown canal. The visitors, some of whom had come from as far away as Texas and Malaysia, were there to commemorate this small country’s entry into the ranks of the world’s major oil producers.

Taxis is wel leuk als je wil babbelen met Pakistanen en Chinezen maar dat paste geloof ik niet in het format. Sowieso valt nu eigenlijk extra op how wit dat hele gebeuren was. En dat in NY.

En iedereen in New York is bankier of iets in de IT. De laatsten zijn gay. Vraag me niet waarom.

Not 100% sure why they bothered to still have the taxis in Z-A function and cost money when you have constant access to fast travel for free

Fun fact: I was recently in a city that offers free buses. By my estimation, this saved me about $80 in Uber/Lyft/Taxis. $80 which I promptly and easily spent in various restaurants, cafes, and chocolate shops. Make the buses free.
It would cost roughly $700 million to make the nation's slowest buses fast and free.
And it would generate more than double that in economic benefits for our city.

There aren't many wide streets to do their little maneuvers through. And even the East Bay got a bunch of hills. Over under on when they hit one of the robo-taxis?

I think a lot of schools are in this boat. The aim, I assume, will be to fund provision like this from savings made by reducing the use of private special schools & taxis.
My preference would be for as inclusive mainstream classrooms as possible, plus well funded special schools.
