#cortex—but
every time one opens the Times, you expect psychic damage.

but this? this is an assault on the frontal cortex

Our intelligence and cognitive abilities are perhaps due to an expansion of our cerebral cortex. But surprisingly, compared to highly intelligent birds, primates have many more neurons in their cerebellum as compared to the cerebral cortex.

Here’s that exciting thing I was alluding to, a series of stickers featuring six different Buzzy/Captain Cortex designs. Available now on my Redbubble and TeePublic:

After years, I think it's time to change the names of my Brat Girls, but i woudn't mind some redesign for each one, I feel there is potential in this "Toxic Squad" as henchmen for Nina and Neo Cortex.

In Star Trek II, after Khan controls Chekhov and Terrell but before he leaves them on Regula I, there's a scene where he uses Chekhov to talk to Carol Marcus. Terrell is also on the bridge, brain worm growing, pressure on his cerebral cortex, extremely susceptible to suggestion. This came to mind.

If Smallville were still directly available, that one (probably). As it is, you'd have to put it together with Cortex Prime, which is easy---if you know Cortex.

Aces & Eights is a trad game so there are things they'll likely be used to but it's got a lot of cool systems in it.

Neuroanatomical Variability and Early Substance Use Initiation: Insights from the ABCD Study

“The cortical mantle was thinner in the prefrontal cortex, but thicker in temporal, occipital, and parietal regions among youth who initiated substance use.”

Adolescence is a period of rapid brain development, making it a sensitive window for experiences that may shape long-term outcomes. A new study from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) p...

I attended the panel discussion at today’s “We are Cortex” event.

I skipped the “free” lunch, but did let Cortex know that I want to see an end to the blight & eminent domain in Board Bill 68.

Evil doctors galore! I'm not good at making graphic displays of my art but I hope you enjoy this cropped thing while I start work on the bandicoot crew. #crashbandicoot #fanart

This is all gobbly-goop from our liquid cortex “leader” but clearly no one has mentioned to him that nobody can afford 5 separate medical appointments.
complete batshit insanity

As soon as the blade cut into my frontal cortex I completely forgot the point I was trying to make. But, I'm sure it was profound.

Anyone who reads Ayn Rand without enthusiasm before age 25 has a precociously-developed prefrontal cortex and high capacity for empathy. Anyone gleefully still reading Rand after age 25 is a lonely libertarian bro who searches for failings in others but to can’t see his own lack of personal agency.

This is cool: comparative brain studies of different kinds of mice that have different abilities. This gives us clues about the function of motor cortex — the big but mysterious large brain region involved in movement. 1/
🧠🌟🐭 Excited to share some of my postdoc work on the evolution of dexterity!

We compared deer mice evolved in forest vs prairie habitats. We found that forest mice have:
(1) more corticospinal neurons (CSNs)
(2) better hand dexterity
(3) more dexterous climbing, which is linked to CSN number🧵

I haven't heard that song in ages but it's buried somewhere in my cortex. Jorma is coming to town, his hometown, next week, but I'm afraid I'll miss him.

yeah this is not a guy whose prefrontal cortex is functioning optimally

no shade really, my PFC has holes in it, but I’m not running for office

Note that Cortex Board Member Michael Browning is also Alder Browning who not only sponsored the Cortex bill but also voted for it and that kind of conflict of interest is totally ok in St. Louis.

Alder Antwi did not vote. Waiting to be courted more by lobbyists? Conflict with bank job?
Thanks to Alders Cohn, Narayan & Alderwoman Tyus for voting NO on #BOAbb68 at the first full BOA session vote at the Oct. 17 meeting.

See image 1 for roll call sheet & image 2 for minutes. BB 68 was perfected by a vote of 11 ayes to 3 nays. Ald. Cox Antwi did not cast a vote.

i hear the prefrontal cortex myth is false but it sure did feel like something snapped

Cortex is one of the most innovative RPGs ever written but the system has never been owned by a publisher who actually knew what to do with it. It's never grown into its full potential or sustained a long-term game line.
Everytime I can show people Leverage, or Smallville’s drama rules, or Cortex Prime anything, it blows their mind. We just gotta keep never shutting up about why they’re so cool.

My kid is always complaining I’m on her dad’s side and I’m like- look I don’t want to be on his side- but sometimes I’m just on the side of fully developed prefrontal cortex

Genuine Q:

Has anyone here had to deal with a parent dating someone their age before?? Bc I’m feeling really weird rn and I don’t know how I can look at my mom the same way again…

Yes, I understand that they are two consenting adults — both with a fully developed prefrontal cortex — but idk.

I have an inkling AI videos take advantage of this, given the model’s‘ origins in machine learning and neural network labwork, which did a lot of modeling of the visual cortex, but I cannot prove that. That‘s the neuroscientist-in-a-past-life talking. I have closed that door (old mutuals know).

on a morning for niche opinions: i don’t like strip clubs not because i am a prude or dislike sex workers, but because the women are so young

i want a 30+ strip club. i want your frontal cortex to have developed if I am going to see you take your clothes off.
