#Thematics
Gorgeous!
The thematics and composition remind me a little of @wolfskulljack.bsky.social's work...

Vince staples is to interviews as tyler the creator is to album thematics

It’s gonna be a ride no matter what

Phoenix and Bahamut both have a really fucked up case here and I think I like the thematics of both of them for this undisclosed story purpose. But I will be thinking about titan Alisaie for obvious reasons. (And also to give her wheels)

my 4 games, and the 4 games that inspired their structure/thematics

The disparate halves are linked emotionally, not textually, two very different manifestations of the same summer-breeze-subtle fantasy bleeding over into still point queerness and hyper-realist camerawork. The thematics are pure visual poetry, meaning irrelevant to feeling. So much to chew on.

imo his limitations on Sinners are not at all in the thematics, but in his control of the cinematic language he's been developing since Fruitvale. it's still not fully formed, but it's getting there. i don't see any "the solution to global racism is a community centre in Oakland" stuff in Sinners.

I read Ashes today. It's a superb book and I think Chris Wraight is really one of the best Black LIbrary has when it comes to complex political intrigue and subtle thematics. Highly recommended - actually probably not a bad place to jump in if you're new to Horus Heresy stuff but familiar with 40k.

Pleased to say that, after months of building my skills at solving thematics, I’ve finally finished Listener 4549 by @johnfinnemore.bsky.social. As an appreciator of his work in other media, I’ve always wanted to tackle it & have had it printed out waiting for over a year, undone.

A good feeling!

The reason the "[X] superhero doesn't kill!!!!" maximalist position is nonsense is because it's entirely about mechanics, not thematics around extrajudicial death. The problem isn't death, it's that it should happen in a way that gives the facade of moral distance to the hero.

I've seen so many people react poorly to it and every time I just go "do you have any idea what narrative structure and thematics actually are" lol

this is the most gratifyingly Bronze Age internal conflict, right in the sweet spot of both classic John Blaze Ghost Rider and Claremont Wolverine thematics: it’s all about the never-ending knife edge of walking around with a sharp temper. this actually kind of whips.

Just done @henriwords.com puzzle in Unch, and it's wonderful. I don't do a lot of these types of puzzles where some entry is central and a lot of clues reference it. Times never publishes those and I rarely venture into Guardian (often too non-Ximenean). Is there a name for them? Semi-thematics?

"Masters of the Dig!"

Classic Knuckles VS Shovel Knight
(Sonic Series VS Shovel Knight Series)

I went with Classic Knux since I think it vibes better with Shovel Knight's general design but ultimately I don't think anything changes the verdict nor the thematics.

Also highly recommend pairing it with Florence + the Machine’s new album which articulates some key thematics & aesthetics appropriately disquieting eeriness

Mega Smeargul. They have ART BLOCK. GET IT????????
stamina seemed fitting cause of the new rock type and like thematics of rock carving but for all i know it could be unbalanced as balls so if it is whoops!!!!!

There's even a kind of Exalt who are supposed to be exclusively villainous and because the metaphysics of Exalted run on thematics they get mechanical bonuses for things like villain monologuing.

Balancing out complaining about D&D I wonder if there's any RPG that really hones in on the thematics of Armored Core i.e. becoming a dehumanized, weaponized entity on behalf of a group of capitalists functionally playing god. But also cool robots.

That said, Tsukasa Hojo was a beast of consistency. Tended to stay close to his usual thematics and environments. Not sure I'd ever seen him draw, say, medieval fantasy or even sci-fi settings.

it's also a problem for the show's thematics because the original subtext was very much centered on 1980s (and, really, 1990s, bc the Duffer brothers are my age and grew up then) anxieties around gender that now seem intensely quaint
Stranger Things debuted in July 2016 and its fifth season is dropping winter 2025 and that is simply too long a timeline

Bit disappointed that in 2025 in games that handle PbtA in an emulation manner "just use these thematics playbooks and play it like you would Other PbtA"

Mostly because how they fail a basic principle: IF I am not familiar with what you are emulating, could I, with the game alone, get there?

I will wait to see the full card lineup before reviewing the new Secret Lair holiday product...I will say...while the thematics of being a encylopedia cute....going from 30 cards for 150 to 26 cards for 200.....some people will be annoyed at that unless the card pool is very silly. Time will tell.
