#Matip
It's not about whose the better defender, though you are seriously underestimating Marc Guehi as a defender.

It's about whose the better partner for Virgil Van Dijk, for as long as we have him. Joel Matip was a better partner for Virg.

I think we want a guy who is comfortable controlling the game.

I think when Ibrahima Konate is in form, he's the best defensive player we have been able to play next to Virgil Van Dijk.

The reason why I think #LFC might be question offering him a contract extension is because Joel Matip was the best defensive partner, and we could find a player like him again.
🔴 Virgil van Dijk on Ibrahima Konate

🗣️"I think Ibou, as an example, has been in the last two games especially outstanding. He's working on things, like we all do. He helps me, I help him and that's how it should be. We are not perfect."

He and Virgil were probably our best CB pairing stats wise, stemming from the 18/19 season I think. Matip-Virgil edged it overall only coz of their longevity

Matip is the fella I miss the most from the Klopp era.

With me I think about current need, Matip or Mane for me.

I always loved Joel Matip. Severely underrated CB and a humble guy. If we hadn't got him on a free and paid his market value, plus the fact that he played next to one of the greatest CB's in history, he'd be talked about way more. #lfc

Joel Matip has kept a low profile since leaving Liverpool last year, and Reds fans were delighted to see a new picture of him to take their minds of the club's current plight

Every team has a meme player. We had Pressman and Windass. Liverpool had Matip.

Be more Joel Matip.

Of the incredible Liverpool 19/20 XI not many getting a nice goodbye.

- Trent booed at Anfield.
- Henderson farewell video separate from club.
- Gini contract gazumped by PSG.
- Mane suddenly off day after parade.
- Firmino/Fabinho to Saudi.
- Salah moaning to the press.

Matip was chill.

Joel Matip can!

We have neen linked with a lot of No.6's in recent months. If we had a plan, it was flawed as we did not land Guehi or another CB and went with Konate, who has been very poor.
Leoni replaced Quanseh. Meanwhile Matip has still not been replaced.

Me neither, seems like a late bloomer. Idk I'm just looking for a Matip type signing cause I don't know of a top level signing who'd suit us 😭

Joel Matip celebrates after scoring for Liverpool during their 4-0 win over Wolverhampton at Anfield. Mohamd Salah and Gini Wijnaldum also put their names on the scoresheet while Nelson Semedo was unlucky to score an own goal in the 90th minute.

We need: a starting right back. A left centre back who can also play LB. We need to replace both Matip and Quansah. We need to replace Gini and Fab and add an Emre Can type. We need a Diaz replacement and an out and out speed merchant. We needed all of this in the summer.

Where would we have finished without Salah having a record breaking season last year? And how would Salah have performed without Trent behind him? I remember longing for Matip to play because no one else could progress the ball apart from Trent.

10,000%

I am amazed by how some people have forgotten what a partnership a fully fit Gomez & van Dijk made.
Same with Matip.
As good as Ibou is, Gomez & Virg are the best pair we had when fully fit.

Here’s the truth nobody wants to say:

👉 Matip was his best-ever partner.
👉 They wanted Guéhi for a reason.
👉 This squad isn’t built for the system they’re trying to play.

Clip up the segment and let the comments fly. 🔥💬

This 100m+ signings lark was never our station. It was signing hungry animals with great work ethic. Just below world class and ready to explode. Physically ready for the battle. Klopp knew it. Alisson, Matip, VVD, Fab, Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah etc.
